1. How do I get Kodi to recognize the fanart for my movie files? It is displays a thumbnail of the movie. All movies in that folder have posters (fanart files).
2. Where is the option to download subtitles for movies?

When you scanned the movies into the library you should have got thumbs and fanart
If you want to change the fanart, select the movie and hit the i key
You can hit enter while watching the movie and select download in the subtitles section to get subtitles.
(you can pause while doing this)
