What HDMI firmware version do you have? Upgrade program is Windows only.
I am not sure. I thought when I checked, the firmware updates were for HDMI 2.0 issues. The firmware instructions also say you cannot upgrade unless you are hooked to HDMI 2.0 monitor. I do not have any HDMI 2.0 devices.

It fixed some HDMI audio pass through issues as well. Google this forum, might be the second latest firmware is better than newest.

"To recap, the issue that we were seeing was that DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD audio formats did not work at all in passthrough mode if you have a HDMI 2.0 capable amplifier."
I do not have an HDMI 2.0 amp/receiver. I also do not have HDMI 2.0 Monitor/Display that is needed to perform the HDMI firmware upgrade. AFIKN, this issue is only dealing with the Display Port to HDMI 2.0 adapter. It shouldn't affect HDMI 1.4a signal, but maybe I'm wrong. Regardless, since I do not have an HDMI 2.0 display, I don't see how I can update it. I am certainly not going to go and buy one just to update.

Quote:The previous fix was a step to the right direction (they started working at 1920×1200@60Hz mode and 4k modes), but it still did not work ok at 1920×1200@24p resolution.

I’ve tested this update on a NUC6CAYH and it works as expected. I can finally bitstream the audio to my AVR with either Kodi or MPC-HC using any screen resolution.

And check comments:
Quote:Despite what the instructions say, the update procedure has worked fine for me when the 7i3BNH is connected to an old 1080p monitor via the HDMI connector.

Ok, I guess I'll give it a try. I managed to find the 1.66 version (which wasn't easy).

So, I was actually able to run the HDMI update tool after a few tries. I failed until I installed the Intel chipset/video/audio drivers. Eventually, it ran and updated to 1.66.
However, that did not solve the problem, at least not with LibreELEC. I will try tomorrow with a Windows version of Kodi and see if that solves it. I'm tired of messing with it for now.

Hello,
I am looking to replace my current media player, as it doesn't play h265 files.
Can't really decide, if Kaby Lake NUC (Beebox 7200 most likely) is worth 2x price of Zidoo x9s or Nvidia Shield.
What I need:
1. Perfect playback of 1080 24p mkv files (auto frame switching...)
2. Passthrough for DTS / DTS HD-MA / DD / DD True-HD over HDMI to my Onkyo tx-nr609 receiver (HDMI 1.4a)
3. H265 playback
4. Playback of 1080p/60fps Twitch and FB streams (currently using android TV for that, but it can play fluently only 720p, 1080/60 is choppy little bit)

I don't have 4K/HDR TV at the moment and don't care about 3D. I will use Windows 10.
I like Beebox 7200u the most, as I would like to use my infrared Logitech harmony remote for Kodi control.
What do you think, will it work for me ?
Thanx a lot

Get the Nvidia Shield or Minix U9.

Well, I had Minix U1 some time ago and playback using Kodi was just not good, some small problems (stuttering and audio out of sync) quite often.
My current mede8er is way much better. Also I don't think any Android device can handle Twitch at 1080/60, which I need for watching Dota 2 tournaments :-)
Why you don't recommend Kaby Lake ?

I see you have both Minix U9 and Nvidia Shield.
Could you please check, if they can play fluently Twitch streams at 1080/60 ?
Thank you.

i'm in the same boat as you i cant get anything past dd or dts to work properly, eac3 (dd+) or any of the hd formats do not pass through for me at all

i'm wondering if the firmware update does not work properly if not connected to a hdmi 2.0 source?

I am sure the 1.66 update worked. It went though the process and said complete.
Also, I was able to get DD+ to stream after the update, but still not DTS-HD Master or TrueHD.
I am going to test with Windows Kodi this evening if I have time.

You already had great quality, h.265 decode with HD audio passthrough perfectly capable hardware. All it needed was an optimized OS and A Kodi bug busted hardware specific software release. That being LibreELEC Kodi Krypton.
Take a look at this thread:

MINIX NEO U1: What is the way forward ? (Click)

And then there is the Twitch Kodi Addon:
https://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:TwitchTV

No idea what "FB streams" are.

You needs are basic, you do not need expensive hardware just for 1080p H265 with auto everything and HD audio passthrough. Many people are already using cheap AMLogic S9xx boxes running LibreELEC Kodi Krypton to already do such tasks.

Life get even better and more responvive when you use a wireless remote.
