Just hooked up a AVR between my Pi3 (Libreelec, latest 8.0 millhouse build) and TV. System settings to allow pass-through of course as the AVR has better DAC's than the PI I would imagine. Played some audio and video - all fine. Recorded TV - all good.live TV - all streams that have PCM work fine, those with Dolby Digital (AC3) however don't. Playback starts but receiver doesn't show anything, TV screen blank, receiver quiet. Disable passthrough and all is well again - but that kind of defies the purpose??
I know transcoding/muxing takes place for live streams - does that break the system for AC3 encoded audio??
thnx

It shouldnt... Can you please post a ServerWMC log showing you live streaming some of these channels (and a working channel as well)? It should show what audio tracks are available and which is being remuxed

generally true. in my experience, if you downmix avrs tend to out-do their cpu-counterparts (at least naive ones ignoring the downmix matrices embedded in the bitstreams). that's the one true value of passthrough these days, if you have a 5/7.1 setup and hdmi there ain't no gain from passthrough.

log pasted as "ac3stream". Did have a look - log looks fine. Noticed that remux kicks off and produces the .TS file. The Kodi client running on Raspberry gets the SMB path but chokes on it (no audio/video). Kodi Client on Windows has no problems with it and Raspberry work OK without passthrough enabled. I copied the .TS file to a path accessible to Kodi on the raspberry and played it with the normal video player. Works fine - image is there, AVR sees a AC3 (Dolby Digital) stream and decodes just fine.
Question now is - how is playing the .TS file from within the PVR add-on different than playing from the Videos section??
Any ideas??
thnx

from our perspective we just tell Kodi to play the file over the smb path. Can you post the log please, incase there are any other things that jump out at me?
