On your firestick go to settings-applications-manage installed applications-amazon video then clear cache and data, force stop amazon video then reopen Kodi and you should be good to go.

I literally had this happen today on my Fire Stick.i tried the Amazon Video solution with no luck. I can't figure it what could have happened to do this as I've changed nothing on the stick at all. I'm using Kodi 16.1. I checked the same videos (from local) on other machines and here's what I found. On my Nexus tablet they play fine with black letterboxing and bars. On my M8S box they play fine. And on my phone (Note 5) they play fine. It seems be a problem with the fire stick. It's baffling though since I changed nothing on the stick. I even tried spmc too and got the same results.
UPDATE:
I pulled the power.on the stick, waiting a minute and rebooted. All is working fine again so far. Not sure if it's a permanent fix but so far it's back to normal.
