I've been experiencing this on and off over the past couple of weeks but haven't been able to repeat reliably it until now. I go to Music > Files > Music NAS (the name I gave the Music folder on my SMB NAS) and then select an album folder and try to play it by pressing the 'P' key. KODI looks like it is going to play the first track but then the screen goes dark and a few seconds later reboots. I can play the same files OK if I open the folder and then select the first track.
@Halloway is it likely when this happens that the NAS drive is asleep, or that the first file to play is somehow inaccessible?
Just a quick note to say that I experienced the crash/restart just now after having played several albums, so I think we can rule out a sleepy NAS.

Regards,
Pete
@Halloway You should ideally upload your kodi crashlog to pastebin site and provide url link in your post..

With LibreELEC OS running on an rpi its normally very easy to do directly within GUI (i.e. immediately after Kodi has recovered from the crash) Just go into System -> LibreELEC -> Settings -> System

At very bottom of list are two "Submit Log" options in order to upload your kodi.log or kodi crash log. (Select option of interest, in this case kodi crash log and when system returns message containing a URL, manually write own URL and include in your post here)

Crash on music playback - @Halloway , @HiassofT and @aleksobs can you report if #0616 has fixed the issues you were having PR14039 and PR14055 may have helped. A debug log would help if you still have issues.

Please ping me in the reply as I don't always watch this thread.

 It works good now! Thanks.
Will there be a new Experimental Linux 4.17.x-build?

@DaveBlake quick test with build #0617 looks good, playback of a music folder on sdcard didn't crash kodi.

Have tried launching 10-15 albums and all have played without a problem with #0617.

Linux Kernel 4.17 is included in #0617 now
Sorry, I was wrong...
(2018-06-18, 10:53)Germeleon Wrote: Will there be a new Experimental Linux 4.17.x-build?

Probably not - 4.18-rc1 is now available so it's likely to be the focus of any future mainline kernel on RPi rather than 4.17.y. However the decision to continue with LTS or switch to mainline on RPi hasn't been made yet, so for now these nightly builds will continue on 4.14.y for the time being, maybe with weekly 4.18-rc builds. Hopefully the decision on which kernel to use with LE9 will be concluded before 4.18 is released in ~2 months.

It is a RPI3B. I am just trying to find the reason it has has steadily gotten worse over the last few months of upgrades. Netflix and now amazon prime both seem unusable due to screen lockup’s.

It does not seem to be the WiFi as hard wire did the same.

I swapped sd cards and did a complete reinstall. that did not help.

Being I am not computer person. I probably just need to wait and see. Thanks for the response and all the hard work.

"Screen lockups" - do you mean buffering, stuttering?

Make sure you've configured inputstream.adaptive to a maximum of 720p as the RPi3/RPi3+ cannot software decode 1080p without stuttering.

You can test your Wifi and Ethernet throughput using iperf, which you can install from the network-tools add-on (you'll need iperf running on another machine in your network to test the throughput between the two machines). I'm pretty sure the ethernet performance won't have changed, but your wifi is dependent on the environment it operates in, and that could have changed, but there's little anyone here can do about that - it's why Wifi is almost never recommended for streaming.

It's also possible your ISP is the problem, and your internet connection/performance has degraded during the last few months resulting in increased buffering.

If this were a common problem with these builds then more people would be reporting it, and they're not, so this sounds like a situation specific to your network, either your Wifi or your ISP. Run a speedtest on your internet connection to confirm you're getting what you expect, and iperf on your Wifi.
