Hi Milhouse,

I have a very curious behavior with my libreelec installation. I'm not able to say since which version this is existing but its very old (in LE9 test builds!)
In the actual stable version this problem does not exist. and the behavior is a little bit better since the beginning of the LE9 Test builds.

Environment:
  • Latest Rasperry Pi 3b+
  • LE9 Testbuilds with full network booting (no SD card)
  • OS storage mounted via NFS / Movies via SMB
  • Networking via 100MBit
Problem: After showing Live TV (from tvheadend) or movie and I press stop the first 10-15 seconds all worked well. When I press a key on my remote (CEC) Kodi works normal without any delay.
But after this 10-15seconds i will get no feedback from kodi. It looks like it its frozen. Nothing is working.
After another 10-15 seconds Libreelec/Kodi will "play" all pressed keys in roundabout one second very fast.
Then all is working well.

I have the same problems when i see a movie/liveTV  and press the back button to enter the menue and will check something... after about 10-15 seconds no keypress will working and then all together. Here also the move/liveTV will stop for about 10 seconds.

I have this problem in all setups with the test builds, also on a clean installation!

Here is the log: http://ix.io/1puB
(with logging enabled in advancedsettings.xml / i inserted the empty lines (press enter) at the time when the problem occur)

As I can see nothing crashed and I have no high networktraffic in this time.

I hove you can help me?!

Thanks a lot
Frank

My initial thought is that your network connection is the bottleneck - for instance Kodi will be querying a SQLite database which is being read across the network and then processed on the RPi. The same for the OS. Try switching to MySQL for your media library, see if that helps. Since you're using an RPi3+, connect at 1Gbps (you won't get that, but it will be about 3.5x faster than 100Mbps).

You could run bcmstat.sh xd1 on the RPi3_ to monitor the amount of network traffic being sent/received, and if %iowt (iowait) is an issue - large periods of high iowait will mean the CPU is IO (network) bound.

but it's intresting i made another test:
Start liveTV but i does not wait a longer time... only about 1min and i does not stop i only go through the menues ans liveTV in the background....
The same output from your tool... but all works well. It's only after about 10min?!

My remote filesystem is via nfs from a (virtual) debian stretch server unning on a SSD and i have a fast respone from my server for filesystem operations... my movies are on normal hdd's and I'm able to copy with 100 Megabyte/s to My Workstation connected via 1G

About the network connection.. I will test it next weekend... because i split my connection in 2x 100M because i have only one Cat6 cable and my TV also needs network Wink

And there is no Probelm with the latest stable Libreelec!

Thanks
Frank

You're maxing out your (artificially) limited network connection. If you've configured non-standard caching in Kodi then that might explain why some activities are taking longer.

I still have no idea why you are limiting your RPi3+ network connection to 100Mbps - your explanation makes no sense.

I would suggest you either fix your network (and accept that even at full capacity - ~330Mbps - it's still going to be more sluggish than a decent SD card). Or just buy a decent SD card and forget about booting over NFS.

I'm pretty sure the problems you are experiencing are of your own making...

Hi,

Is it possible to add the jsonmerge (python) 'url jsonmerge' to libreelec ?

Thanks in advance,
Wwark

Create an addon.

Ok i will look into it.
Thanks.
Hi,
limit the port of your 1gb/s router/switch conneted to your 100mb/s switch to 100mb/s. It solved the problem in my case and in Doldis.
I can fully confirm this.

...but sometimes i have still (little) problems with bluray over smb:// from time to time.  ;-)

Since Build #1017 (maybe earlier), i can't choose a Update Channel or a Update File within Libreelec Configuration.

This was due to a server configuration change that started using Cloudflare yesterday - as of about an hour ago the server change has been reverted.

since I am using Milhouse builds on my Pi, I always have the issue, that I cannot use DVD menus. Navigation using my remote or keyboard only works blind, i.e. the cursor doesn't move. Sometimes, not reproducable, there is even no cursor rendered. The only way to safely navigate in DVD menus is via mouse control.

I am not sure, if this is a general problem of Kodi or of Milhouse builds.

Do you need further information?

Thanks, especially for your work with providing the builds

Hi again,

as my post was during your short break in providing new builds I would like to ask again for help with my DVD menu navigation problem. Do you need anything from me to investigate this?

Thanks in advance
