v18 LibreELEC Testbuilds for x86_64 (Kodi 18.0)
I can confirm the following when I setting up "keep sound device alive" on off, then I have with xvid video material no delay of the sound forward and rewind, but with the same setting x264 / x265 video material freezes Kodi completely.

If I adjust the setting to 1 minute or always I have no freeze at the forward and rewind, but the delay of the sound from 2 - 3 seconds until the sound again

Yes, the 2-3 seconds of audio silence after seeking continues to be an issue with #0910 and later builds.

This only happens with passthrough and respectively Sync Playback to Display disabled, right?
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

No.

ION2 into 7.1 Onkyo AVR: passthrough enabled, sync playback to display disabled
NUC into 2.0 channel computer monitor: passthrough disabled, sync playback to display disabled

In both cases there is 2-3 seconds silence after seek (eg. 7-second jump back, you miss the first 2-3 seconds of audio).

I disabled passthrough on the ION2, same result - 2-3 seconds silence after seeking.

I also enabled sync playback to disaply on the ION2, and again had 2-3 seconds silence after seeking (although a few times I tested and had no period of silence, so it may be implicated).

I would also say that since #0910, when seeking (even a few seconds with jump back) there is now a much longer "buffering" delay (even though I'm on a GigE wired connection) and the "buffering" busy circle appears on the screen for 1-2 seconds (showing only 100, ie. no incremental buffering - it's instantly at 100%, and then there's a 1-2 second delay) before video then plays without audio for a few seconds.

With #0909, there is no such buffering delay, and no period of audio silence - seeking is much snappier (ie. instant), and generally just a whole lot better than it is in #0910.

Same at my NUC (Kaby Lake)...

found something regarding skipping forward/ backward in a video.
in my case i only enable +30s and -30s as the skipping steps.

i could not step skip any video, large delays, no audio, kodi stalled.
an onkyo tx-sr906 is connected to this setup.

i had DISABLED 'keep audio device alive'

check the log:
https://pastebin.com/Vv9dmT2r

then i ENABLED 'keep audio device alive'
and lo and behold, skipping in any video starts working again.

my other kodi client uses analog jack outputs (HDA intel alc888 analog) as audio instead of an ONK, same thing happens.

this behaviour started somewhere this month... 0913?? did not check this... please let me know if i should check this...

Yes, disabling "keep audio device alive" will cause video to freeze when seeking, I think this started with #0910 (please check this yourself). There are a number of issues arising from the changes in #0910 that the developers are aware of, and in the process of fixing.

No as I cannot reproduce. Need detailed step by step instructions. Debug log does not help in this case.

EDIT: this behavior might even be intended. IIRC, there is a feature not always to select the currently playing channel, but "sometimes" the last selected. But as I never really understood this feature I cannot say when not selecting the currently playing channel is intended and when it's a bug.

Sorry, it is working like a charm here. I did exactly what you did in the video. Clueless.
