v18 LibreELEC Testbuilds for x86_64 (Kodi 18.0)

I kind of expected such a reply...

Quote:Kinda ridiculous, given that both the NUC7C and NUC7P have been given a certificed pre-install status by Ubuntu by now.
OK, then go back to plan A: test with an Ubuntu 16.04 install and if the IR receiver dies there as well with the newer BIOSes report it to Ubuntu. If it's indeed a BIOS issue they should be able to put a bit more pressure on Intel than a few forum users that can easily be ignored.

so long,

@lwrcase, @Aenima99x (for reference), maybe @matt Devo (and anyone else with stutter):

This is the bug I opened for the stuttering issue: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107111

Chris Wilson has been incredibly helpful. He's proposed a 5th (and hopefully final) fix for the stuttering, and would like one last check in case of a regression before (presumably) proceeding upstream.

Could you test build #0708b: Generic

#0708b is the same as #0708 but includes this latest anti-stuttering fix, so please report if the stutter issue is now resolved, or if there are any continuing issues (or new issues not present in #0708).

Many thanks!

 will give it a try shortly.  Any chance you can include the 'snd_soc_rt5663' module in next build?  need it for analog audio on KBL Chromeboxes

I'll take a patch for https://github.com/LibreELEC/LibreELEC.t...86_64.conf

There are multiple SND_SOC_RT5663 related configuration options and I don't know which ones you need.

I'll take a patch for https://github.com/LibreELEC/LibreELEC.t...86_64.conf

There are multiple SND_SOC_RT5663 related configuration options and I don't know which ones you need.
+CONFIG_SND_SOC_RT5663=m
+CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_KBL_RT5663_MAX98927_MACH=m
+CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_KBL_RT5663_RT5514_MAX98927_MACH=m

708b seems good here
(2018-07-10, 04:47)Matt Devo Wrote: +CONFIG_SND_SOC_RT5663=m
+CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_KBL_RT5663_MAX98927_MACH=m
+CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_KBL_RT5663_RT5514_MAX98927_MACH=m
So here's the thing - those three options have no effect when added to the current LibreELEC linux.x86_64.conf because they're dependent on another option (either one of CONFIG_MFD_INTEL_LPSS_ACPI or CONFIG_MFD_INTEL_LPSS_PCI) which presumably you already have in your config, but is not in LE master.

Adding either one of the CONFIG_MFD_INTEL_LPSS_* options introduces yet more options (should these new options be enabled or disabled, as I have no idea - I normally accept the default, which in this case is mostly disabled). I also have no idea which of the CONFIG_MDF_INTEL_LPSS_* options you need - is it ACPI or PCI, or maybe even both? The last time I had a major fiddle with the kernel CONFIG_SND_SOC_* options I broke audio in several devices, so I tend to be a bit more cautious when playing in this area nowadays!

Here are the changes (after make oldconfig) when adding the three different MFD option combinations:

CONFIG_MFD_INTEL_LPSS_ACPI=y: https://gist.github.com/MilhouseVH/890fd...f7daa765b2
CONFIG_MFD_INTEL_LPSS_PCI=y: https://gist.github.com/MilhouseVH/81732...424810216c
CONFIG_MFD_INTEL_LPSS_ACPI & PCI=y: https://gist.github.com/MilhouseVH/d0000...c41ef83999

You'll notice that CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_KBL_RT5663_RT5514_MAX98927_MACH=m is not there, as it continues to be dropped because of another missing dependency, CONFIG_SPI=y - adding this option will bring in another 114 (!) options (see here).

To be honest, I think this should be added via a PR, as it's really not a trivial change!

so it seems! I'm going to work on getting this functional under a mainline distro/kernel for now then. Without those config options, I can still get HDMI audio working by blacklisting snd_soc_skl, which is good enough for now I think Smile
Why not just clone LibreELEC, go into kernel directory make "menuconfig" after copying the linux conf to that directory. Enable what you need and send a PR? I think that would benefit most.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

 I'll do that once I have a working reference - right now just trying to get it to work in any mainline/non-ChromeOS distro.  I'm not aware of any non-ChromeOS devices using this codec setup so not sure how beneficial it will be

@lwrcase (or anyone else with stutter, other than @matt Devo) are you able to verify #0708b is OK? The current revert patch will be dropped from #0711 tonight so it's important there's an upstream patch to replace it.

Well, it appears that after posting the fact of Ubuntu certification to the Intel Community, they have reconsidered. I've given them some config info - hopefully, they'll pass it on to an engineering team.
