(It has been a few months since I tested last, so not sure when this started) Not sure if anyone else has come across this issue. I do not notice it on 17.6 libreelec builds on my other pc or in Windows on the same pc.  I am using the older HDHomerun that uses Mpeg-2.  Would there be any benefit to using the newer version that converts to H.264?
 Hey Guys,

I have now updated to the most recent version 4.19 RC build and even started fresh and am still having the issue of the poor video quality using both the hdhomerun and hdhomerun simple addons.  Again I am running a Ryzen 2400G on an Asus X470-i board.

Here is a link to my log.   Any help is greatly appreciated.

http://ix.io/1mwZ
Code:
18:51:09.972 T:140565311543040 DEBUG: CDVDVideoCodecFFmpeg - Updated codec: ff-mpeg2video-vaapi

HW accelerated MPEG2 video has poor quality on AMD. See my old post.

Disable VAAPI MPEG2 acceleration in video settings.
Thank you, I will take a look.  I do not see this using in Windows using 17.6.  I believe the newer hdhomerun devices use H.264, so maybe a good idea to upgrade?
Edit:  This did the trick thank you for the tip.  I was mistaken on the new hdhomerun being h.264 too,  have to jump up to the extend for that.
@gwilly7 A little off topic:  Do you get the 720p stream in MPEG2 or is it transcoded by hdhomerun from h.264 or h.265?

This is what I am seeing for a 720 stream.

@pacoma2610 you seem to have misinterpreted @HiassofTs reply to @TimoJ as a reply to yourself. That reply has nothing to do with your issue.

As for why you are experiencing a problem with the 4.14 kernel, I provided the link to the change in one of my previous posts (post 1952 in case you missed it). I can only assume right now that the kernel developers didn't test with your particular brand of remote control, or your remote control is "out of spec". Since this is a fairly new issue and one which may or may not be widespread we need to take some time to consider the best solution. Please continue to work with @HiassofT
Got it works. It working now. Hope will not get the issue. thanks for the solution that you provide. May be some glitch from my part as well. NOw get it all working.
@Milhouse Am i right that cec is broken with latest build #1015?

My nuc7i5bnh complains that the firmware of my pulse8 adapter isn’t compatible and i need to update the firmware.

Then i reverted to #1006 but it still complains that the frimeare of my cec adapter isn’t compatible...

Before updating to #1015 everything was fine.

Hmm... I don't see any CEC changes in #1015, and I don't have any CEC capable displays with which to check here. We don't include any CEC firmware in these builds (it requires Windows, eugh) so if #1006 worked before, then going back to #1006 should continue to work. Can you post a #1015 kodi log from within the LE Settings addon (so that it includes journalctl as well). It might be worth enabling CEC component logging, enable debug, rebooting, then posting the log.

Is anyone else experiencing CEC issues after #1015? I'll see if any LE team members are able to test CEC.

Thank you very much for response.

btw Welcome back😬

It might be worth power cycling your TV (or whatever your PulseEight is connected to) in case it's just a glitch with your setup (if there is a general problem with CEC in #1015 then I'd expect more than one problem report by now). If you go back to an older build which worked previously but no longer does, then maybe your PulseEight adapter is faulty (corrupted in some way?)

Thanks. There might be another brief outage early November but hopefully only a day or two at most (more building work, argghhh).

@Milhouse Thank you that did the trick.
I pulled off the power of my tv , avr and nuc wait a minute then the power back on tv, avr and nuc and CEC came up back again.

I think there was indeed a little glitch in my setup.

Now it's working fine again.

Sorry for the inconvience.
No problem, glad it's working again! Smile

Yes when resetting to 0,0 on the overscan page you cannot see the artifacts anymore. But ofcourse this way the menu's are falling behind the border of the screen..

Sounds like your TV has overscan set. You need to change to have 1:1 scanning in the TV menu. On LG it’s called ‘Just Scan’ on Sony it’s ‘Full Scan’ I think. Overscan enlarges the the screen by about 5% which was a leftover from analogue TV. With DTV and Video over HDMI you don’t want any scaling at all (artefacts and loss of edge video)

I don’t have such setting. Also using NUC or Xbox one X the picture fits perfectly.
