HLS Stream Buffering
#1
Hi,

I've been using the TwitchTV Kodi addon for a long time (http://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:TwitchTV) without any problems but for the last week it has been unusable due to buffering. The addon just feeds a stream URL to the Kodi video player that's why I'm posting about it here instead of on the thread for the addon. The streams initially play for about 10 seconds, then buffer, play for a further 30-60 seconds and then become completely unwatchable buffering every second or so. This is happening across all my devices running Kodi (PC, FireTV, Raspberry Pi) but if I feed the exact same stream URL to an alternative player such as PotPlayer or VLC it plays smoothly without any problems.

I'm using Kodi 17 Beta 7 but it also happens on the latest nightly, the log shows a few errors:

I've tried various video cache settings (http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Modify_the_video_cache) using the newer Krypton syntax but nothing seems to make it any smoother. I'm on a 330mbit connection (wired) and my routing to the Twitch servers seems OK.

Are there any other settings I can change to fix this? Thanks in advance for any help.

Tried this on a different ISP (Sky) last weekend Twitch still buffered to an unusable level with that ISP on both a Raspberry Pi 3 + Kodi and a laptop + Kodi. As above, the stream works both in the browser and inside PotPlayer (same URL as Kodi is playing) without problems Sad. It even happens with a 240p (~200kbps) feed. Is this likely to be a bug or is something else going on?

Did you ever find out the issue/solved it?
I have exactly the same thing on Kodi, LibreElec.
Using BT Infinity 2.

I didn't unfortunately, I'm using BT Infinity 2 too.

For now I've just removed OpenELEC/Kodi from the Raspberry PI and use Raspbian to watch Twitch in the browser. Not very convenient but at least it works.

Just to update,
just tried it again a few minutes ago (having done nothing/changed nothing) and it's working perfectly again.
1080p,60fps, no lagging, no buffering.

Pity I didn't do more investigation on this - curious if the issue was BT or Twitch/CDN...

Thanks for the update! It does indeed seem to be working now after having not worked for the ~3 weeks.

I had tried it via two ISPs (BT/Sky) with/without a VPN to see if any unwanted traffic shaping was going on and nothing worked so maybe it was a twitch issue. Strange the exact same stream urls worked in PotPlayer though, maybe it just has a better caching/buffering system.
