Really like your skin. However the images seem to be too dark for me to see them. Would it be possible to disable the dim effect everywhere on the thumbnail view, including menus and widgets?

I have the same request. I also would like to be able to see a clear background image, not a dimmed one.

You can add a new over lay image that is nothing but a transparent layer.
