As to how, you just need an Atmos setup.

Are you talking about a 2019 version?

I think so, 8.1.1 is only out for the 2019 version it seems :/

Unless something very recently changed (which would have definitely had folks talking) Atmos is not available for Netflix on the older Shields. I would be happy to be wrong.

I had that working fine when I had a 2017 Shield, not sure if they messed something up recently. Make sure you are finding the UHD version
of the show, they have two listings for the ones in 4k, and for some reason like to hide the UHD versions.

The 1080p videos play fine, the 4K ones won’t.
Didn’t know they had both, will have a look, thanks!

Presumably this is because the Shield TV is properly Netflix approved in Android TV, and so Netflix playback within Kodi doesn't have to resort to the secondary software decode solution?

Hi,
This is only something that's happened fairly recently, but audio on Live TV or recordings when in Kodi using NextPVR is out of sync with the video.
I am using an Nvidia Shield and for months it has been bulletproof.

I have tried using the NextPVR app on the Shield and everything is fine.
Also playing the recording on Windows in VLC is fine

Any ideas where I can start to troubleshoot this?

I had this issue on Kodi 18, upgraded to 19 nightly and have the same issue. This isn't happening with another Android TV box we have

Do you get Dolby Atmos audio on Disney+?

Not currently, in the UK at least, as Disney have disabled it to limit the bandwidth during Corona Virus.

I recently got the latter, and can’t get 10 or 12-bit output out of Kodi (using v18 Alpha 1) and 23.976 or 24.000. With [email protected] HDR (like the Sony Camp demo clip), I get 10-bit 4:2:0. But, with 23.976, it’s always 8-bit 4:2:2.

With Zidoo X9S and new X20, with 23.976, I get 4:4:4 12-bit as expected. Can’t figure out why Shield won’t do same?
Hey, sorry for dredging up your post from a couple of years ago, but I found it through a google search after running into basically the same problem as you.

I am running Plex and Kodi on a Shield TV 2019 and viewing through an Optoma UHD50 projector. When I play 10 bit movies through either app, the projector says it is displaying 8 bit. When I play the same movie through the same app on my XBox1X the projector says it is displaying 10 bit. I've tried Netflix on both devices, and both times the projector says it is displaying 10 bit. This is strange because if the problem is somehow with the Shield, then it doesn't happen with Netflix, only Plex or Kodi.

I read through your posts and you seemed to come to the conclusion that although the projector said the Shield was displaying 8-bit, it is actually a mistake, and the projector is actually displaying 10 bit? Did you ever get to the bottom of the issue? Do you think it is just a written mistake with the projector and it is in fact still playing 10 bit?

Another funny mistake I found was that when watching a lower quality file, the Xbox with Plex will display something in 601 SDR and it looks fine, but the same file through the Shield is displayed as BT 709 4:2:2 and has a red tint applied to the skin tones... these little things are really starting to bug me as I was hoping the Shield would be an improvement on my Xbox as a media player, and although the sound is better, so far visually there have been a few niggling issues..... There isn't too much info on this however as it only seems to apply with the the Optoma projectors, so I was hoping that maybe you could shed a little light on the subject!
