It is not that there are colorspace issues, but the main problem is that it cannot automatically switch colorspaces. That being said, this will not be ideal for your needs since it cannot do an HDR to SDR conversion so all HDR files will look washed out.
The problem isn't colorspace swiching either, it's just that the conversion done by the Shield hasn't been good for some people.  This has been improved in Oreo, at least to the majority of  those posting about it say they see improvements.  The really issue is HDR to SDR, though I've tested and it seems mostly fine to me.  The 4K HDR test files I've played on my 1080 TV look mostly same to their 1080p counterparts.

Question.

I have set the shield to output in 4k in the display settings and the gui in kodi to 1080, but why is the refresh rate limited to 30fps? The refresh rate and resolution switching works and colors are better with the oreo update, but why can’t I set kodi to output in 1080/60, at 30fps it’s really sluggish to navigate. I am running kodi 17.6 krypton.

So how well does it do HDR to SDR? I have 4K HDR files and I just want to display them on a 1080p projector. I could not find any examples online or youtube where they were displaying HDR to 1080p SDR tone-mapping. Most are running them to a 4K HDR display.

Colourspace (or gamut) switching isn't possible if your display is SDR Rec 709 only (aka Rec/BT.1886) - you can't switch to Rec 2020 (SDR or HDR) if the display itself is 709/1886 only...

To be honest - all that doing gamut switching does is shift the conversion from the source to the display - it still has to happen somewhere - and for Rec 2020 (SDR and HDR) content on an SDR Rec 709/1886 display this has to be done by the source not the display.

The Shield TV has done 709->2020 conversion previously rather than switching HDMI output gamut (aka colourspace) and this has been improved in Oreo. I'm not sure about the reverse.

I have plasma Panasonic 50ST60, and I do not see any problem in the image quality.
when I'm watching a movie is to enjoy, I'm not looking for defects.
your childrens also complain?
I do not think so.

Just got the 7.0.1 update. I noticed that Kodi can no longer pickup the cpu usage in system information. Can someone else check to see if they have the same issue? If so it would be a bug that would need to be reported.

Works fine here.  You're not using Kodi 32bit are you?

Are you looking at 4K HDR movies or just 1080p rips?

Prior to this update i always used the HDMI output settings that SPMC recommended on the shield - which were different from the Shield's recommended settings.  i wonder if with this new update if we should change?

It is getting quite confusing with all those different opinions about the Shield's performance regarding colorspace switching etc...
Let me get it straight. I have a 4K HDR capable TV (LG OLED 55C7). Am I right to say that the Shield in my scenario is doing everything as it should do? Or is there a catch somewhere?

Even with 7.0.1 I have the issue with my LG OLED 65B7 that Kodi 18 (64 bit) doesn't switch automatically to 1080p or 2160p. It keeps the resolution that is defined in Kodi. With my Sony VPL-VW760 HDR only works if I switch the Shield to 1080p60  REC 709.

I do not need HDR.
My TV is a Panasonic PLASMA.
Plasmas and OLEDs TVs no need HDR.
HDR is good for LCD (led) TVs to disguise the blackest.

You need to provide a Debug log (wiki).

The whitelist was the issue. I didn't know that I have to select all the resolutions first. With my LG OLED 657B everything works perfect now. With my Sony VPL-VW760ES I have to switch the clourspace of the shield to RGB REC709 to get HDR in KODI. But with this colourspace Amazon prime doesn't output HDR. When I switch to the recommend setting Amazon prime works with HDR, but KODI doesn't switch into HDR anymore. Very strange!
