Yeah, something's pretty badly borked. I just started the full reset process. With any luck by this time tomorrow I'll have a working installation but I'm not particularly confident to be honest. Good to know about the log. Next time Kodi eats itself I'll try that and see. At least I've got Plex working in the interim :/
