You then have to actually get ATV App developers to support such an new API. And wait for Google / NVIDIA to update the ATV OS. Which at the moment looks like being delayed..

It's not that I believe the APIs are in Oreo, it's right there in black & white: https://developer.android.com/reference/...Space.html

And no it does not require devs to implement it in their apps.

I would also remind everyone that this is the Nvidia Shield TV thread, it is not the pick the right box thread. There is already a thread for comparing devices and if you want to ask about the capabilities of of devices or comparing devices to one another do it there.

So in Oreo terms on the nVidia Shield - do we think that this change means we will run our 4K nVidia Shields in 2160p Rec 2020 colour space, and Android will then properly handle Rec 709->Rec 2020 colourspace conversion at the OS level (rather than apps having to - if indeed they do - or it not happening at all)?

I'm guessing Android developers see they have an issue with the various streaming apps on different platforms potentially using different colour-spaces to each other, and in some cases within themselves? (BBC iPlayer is Rec 709 for HD content, but the UHD HDR stuff is Rec 2020 - with HLG)
