I recently got the latter, and can’t get 10 or 12-bit output out of Kodi (using v18 Alpha 1) and 23.976 or 24.000. With 4K@60 HDR (like the Sony Camp demo clip), I get 10-bit 4:2:0. But, with 23.976, it’s always 8-bit 4:2:2.

With Zidoo X9S and new X20, with 23.976, I get 4:4:4 12-bit as expected. Can’t figure out why Shield won’t do same?
Hey, sorry for dredging up your post from a couple of years ago, but I found it through a google search after running into basically the same problem as you.

I am running Plex and Kodi on a Shield TV 2019 and viewing through an Optoma UHD50 projector. When I play 10 bit movies through either app, the projector says it is displaying 8 bit. When I play the same movie through the same app on my XBox1X the projector says it is displaying 10 bit. I've tried Netflix on both devices, and both times the projector says it is displaying 10 bit. This is strange because if the problem is somehow with the Shield, then it doesn't happen with Netflix, only Plex or Kodi.

I read through your posts and you seemed to come to the conclusion that although the projector said the Shield was displaying 8-bit, it is actually a mistake, and the projector is actually displaying 10 bit? Did you ever get to the bottom of the issue? Do you think it is just a written mistake with the projector and it is in fact still playing 10 bit?

Another funny mistake I found was that when watching a lower quality file, the Xbox with Plex will display something in 601 SDR and it looks fine, but the same file through the Shield is displayed as BT 709 4:2:2 and has a red tint applied to the skin tones... these little things are really starting to bug me as I was hoping the Shield would be an improvement on my Xbox as a media player, and although the sound is better, so far visually there have been a few niggling issues..... There isn't too much info on this however as it only seems to apply with the the Optoma projectors, so I was hoping that maybe you could shed a little light on the subject!
