Make sure that you have add the source file with the right steps, or the Kodi will fail to browse the content.

I didn't see this answer anywhere so i created an account to post the solution.

For whatever reason, these particular videos were not even showing up in the file browser.

What ended up fixing it for me was removing all of the periods from the filename.

My file was titled something like..

.vid.se.on.etc.mp4

I originally just tried removing the first period but after it still not appearing i went ahead and removed all of the periods.

Now they show up!

Weird because i know it has seen files with periods in place of spaces and played them successfully.

At first i was just trying to stream them via smb share from my Linux desktop. Then I threw them on a flash drive and I thought it was extremely weird they didn't even show up in the file browser. Even .7z files were showing.

Anyway, if anyone runs in to this issue remove the periods in the filename and if that falls try renaming it. I'm thinking maybe it was using an unsupported character or something.

Hope this helps!

Kodi sees only a few of many MP4 files in the WIN 10 Directory

Forcing a MP4 to upload gives error

log
ocotenosuz (paste)

Thank you

I found a time consuming KLUG
  • In the Directory
  • Create a Sub-Directory for EACH mp4 file
KODI now sees the video

PS
Same problem and solution with VLC "Open Folder"

I remain hopeful getting a less time consuming solution -- using WIN 10
