I know most of this thread was for the error on Linux.
But I am having the same issue on Kodi 17.3 on a Windows 8.1 machine. It navigates the menus on the addon perfectly but when it reaches the link, it says 'URL NOT FOUND' or 'UNRESOLVABLE LINK'.
I manually checked the links on a browser, most of them are https but some are also http and they all fail.
Should I downgrade 'Requests' to 2.9.1 ?

Need to post a log file as the issue could just be that the resolver for the site you are trying is broken and needs an update
Note - do not post a log if you are using an addon that accesses copyrighted content (ie. playing movies or tv shows that you should be paying for)

If anyone is still having this issue, I was getting the same error. For me, it was a permissions issue. I’m running the Zorin flavor of Ubuntu. I right clicked the Kodi icon on the desktop, went to the Permissions tab and changed all of the access options to Read and Write.
