Android MINIX NEO U9-H (64-bit Octa Core Amlogic S912-H/ 4K UHD HEVC, HDR, Dolby Audio)

Just to let you know -

I also tested a Libreelec Pre-Alpha from adamg (latest). This version also had no problems with deinterlacing and progressive channels.
But I guess it is using an older kernel, like kszaq's builds do, right?

With this pre-alpha green screen issue is still present of course.
Yes I believe he tried the new Kernel and found issues as well so reverted back to using the old one.
I suspect all AML S9xx alpha LE Kodi Leia releases will be similarly affected.
We are very early in the Leia development cycle so plenty of time to sort out whatever is causing the deinterlacing problem.

Ok, no problem.
That‘s the deal when using developmentbuilds.

One last question:

Are S905x boxes affected from green screen when using latest stable builds?

Does colorspace switch & resolution switch work with these boxes (HDR/SDR)?

Yes they use the same AML Linux Kernel, problems only if you use 422,10 or 12bit.

Ok, but what to use instead?

4:4:4 / 4:2:0 10bit?

444,10bit so long as you are using a 18Gbps High Speed HDMI 2.0a cable like the Amazon Basics or the Monoprice Premium Certified ones.

Hi I have a problem when displaying 1080 24hz

Video is displayed with overs can. Is this a common problem? I have a Sony Bravia kdl 40v3000

are there any known issues with colorspace conversion e.g. 4:2:0 10bit to 4:4:4 10bit on amlogic devices S9xx?

Hope not to bother you:

4:4:4 10bit would mean, I only can have up to 30Hz, right?
60Hz would exceed the maximum bandwith of HDMI 2.0?

So, for bluray there will be no problems (24 Hz) and 4:4:4 10bit / 24 hz / HDR will play fine.

What will happen in special cases like UHD Demo Videos with 60fps 10bit & HDR?

They will play but the Minix U9 will internally switch to 8bit output?
Or HDR will not be used, but 10bit 60Hz instead?

I'm having a challenge setting my minix u9-h to output at 444,10bit using the commands earlier in this thread (or any 10bit setting in reality).

Both my TV (OLED65E6P) and AVR (RX-V679BL) are capable of 444,10bit, but when I reboot the minix fresh, issue the command "echo '444,10bit' > /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/attr" and play a 4k HDR file, my TV says that no source signal is connected, and I get no sound either.

The same thing happens with all other 10bit combinations with the exception of 422,10bit, which gives me sound and video with a green tint to everything (which I read you mentioned is related to the current kernel).

Is there something that I am doing wrong? All of my HDMI cables are 'High Spped HDMI cables w/ Ethernet', which I read indicate an HDMI 2.0a cable. Other than switching out the cables (which I will do, just ordered a new set), is there anything else that I could be missing here?

Thanks

Yes - you are correct you can't get 2160/50p or higher frame rates in 4:4:4 at anything other than 8-bit - as that is the only format supported in the HDMI 2.0 spec.

https://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_2...q.aspx#146

4:2:2 is supported at 12-bit, 4:2:0 at 10-bit and 16-bit (4:2:0 is supported at all bit depths, and at 8-bit sneaks into the HDMI 1.4 bandwidth limits so is sometimes the only 2160/50p or higher format supported on some devices)

For 10-bit HEVC HDR 2160/50p or higher content you will either get 4:2:0 at 10-bit or 12-bit or 4:2:2 output at 12-bit I think. ISTR that the AMLogic series support one of these two modes. I'm not near my Vero 4K or S905X LibreElec boxes and my HD Fury Vertex (which will tell me for sure) - I don't have a Minix Neo U9-H.

Thank you @noggin for your detailed explanation!

I hope it's ok to ask one more question. Would I face any issues setting output to 444,10bit and playing HDR 420,10bit 24p? Will I lose something? Will I experience green tint issue? Thank you in advance!

No, everything will be fine.
I‘m doing exactly the same here.

great, thank you

Edit:

@sw4y
Have you maybe already switched to S905x? Or did you change your mind regarding returning Minix U9?
