Android MINIX NEO U9-H (64-bit Octa Core Amlogic S912-H/ 4K UHD HEVC, HDR, Dolby Audio)
(2018-04-03, 00:36)Zodler Wrote: I just ordered my Minix NEO U9-H. There are too much information out there. To start, I have no SD card, do I have to buy an SD card?

I want to install LibreELEC and replace the android. Can I do that with a USB key and install LibreELEC to the internal 16GB eMMC with no SD card?
It's not advised to install it on internal memory. Best choice is to use an sd card

Anybody got this U9-H setup with a Logitech Harmony remote? Looking for some tips on how to get rolling with this. I just got the Harmony Elite.

Why?
1. If anything goes balystic you'll have to recover your nand to install android again.
2. using an sd card to boot LibreElec and using data partition on NAND isas fast as installing directly to NAND and you avoid the hassle of any problem...

Got a new SD card and it seems to be stable now. However, with a completely fresh installation (booted up, enabled SSH & Samba, connected to WiFi), I cannot connect to the box via SSH. I just get "connection refused" as if the port isn't open or the SSH server isn't running at all, yet the GUI says it's enabled.

Any ideas? I've tried connecting from various machines (Linux and Windows via PuTTY) and get the same thing every time. It's not Windows Firewall either because I SSH to other machines on my network routinely. Sad

Ok, bought a MicroSD card today. NEO U9-H is on the way. What's next? Is it this?

Does this include the subtitle stuttering patch or should I do an extra step?

You can use that if you want a buggy LibreELEC 8.9 running buggy Alpha Kodi Leia. It's not stable software yet.

Follow this for LE Krypton - stable ....

[HOWTO + FAQ] Install LibreELEC community builds on S905/S905D/S905W/S905X/S912 device (click)

And use the S912 Subtitles-ff.img.gz image found by reading THIS post (click)

All LibreELEC Support questions on the LibreELEC - AMLogic subforums please.

A reminder if you use Chroma 444,10bit you need to use a High Speed or Premium Certified HDMI 2.0a cable like the Amazon Basics on Monoprice ones otherwise expect problems.
The Kodi user interface should be left running at a 1080p 50Hz or 60Hz resolution.
AMLogic S9xx LE Kodi auto resolution switches 1080p <<-->> 4K anyway.

Remember (in my S912 LibreELEC) to go into Kodi Settings > System > Display > Community Extras .....

This Works for Both android and LE?

I'm only ever talking about LibreELEC Kodi Krypton, the versions I compile for S912 devices.

In Android on the U9 you have to go into Android Settings > Display > Screen Resolution > More Settings
...if I remember correctly.

 Does this also enable 10-bit 4:2:0 (or 12-bit 4:2:2) output for 2160/50 and 59.94p 10-bit HDR stuff?

I haven't specifically checked, but it's my understanding that this build only supports YCbCr 4:2:2 chroma subsampling.

I'm just being lazy. My Minix U9 has just arrived... I'll get the HD Fury Vertex on it...

Can answer my own question :

4:2:0 10-bit HEVC Rec 2020 HLG 2160/50p stuff plays at 4:2:0 8-bit Rec 709 SDR flagged 2160/50p with the standard settings.
With the Community option it outputs at 4:2:0 10-bit 2160/50p Rec 2020 SDR flagged (I can manually force HLG mode on my TV)

4:2:0 10-bit HEVC Rec 2020 HDR10 2160/23.9760p plays at 4:4:4 8-bit Rec 2020 HDR10 flagged 2160/23.976p with the standard settings.
With the Community option it outputs at 4:4:4 10-bit Rec 202 HDR10 flagged 2160/23.976p.

I also checked some 2160/59.94p 10-bit HEVC HDR 10 stuff - and it played correctly, but Kodi appeared to crash very quickly on a blank screen (I could still SSH in). My HD Fury Vertex was still detecting an input and generating an OSD. Playing the same file again and shuttling through it seemed to be more stable.

So I think we can say that 4:2:0 10-bit 50/59.94p content is output 4:2:0 10-bit and 10-bit 4:2:0 23.976p content is output 4:4:4 10-bit with the Community option enabled.

Nothing I've found so far is output 4:2:2 as reported by my HD Fury Vertex.

Those are the default output modes for the community build. @wrxtasy has a separate build that supports 4:2:2. I am not sure whether adamg builds now default to 4:2:2.
