Android MINIX NEO U9-H (64-bit Octa Core Amlogic S912-H/ 4K UHD HEVC, HDR, Dolby Audio)
(2018-11-22, 03:53)jonbennison Wrote: They will play fine. Do you plan to use DD or DTS? If you do then I highly recommend you use LibreElec on a USB drive that is plugged into your Minix as this plays audio without sound dropouts. The androind system that runs kodi on the stock Minix currently has problems playing DD and DTS via both optical and HDMI.

I'm not getting DD or DD+ audio dropouts when using Kodi Leia nightlies with U9 Marshmallow Android Firmware. (008FW(click)}

I was playing around streaming DD and DD+ Kodi Leia - Netflix Addon 1080p content and watched quite a few shows.

Yes there are unacceptable Mini pauses before you can use it after you pick it up and wake it from battery saving sleep.
The previous A2 lite is what everyone buys, it has no such issues.
The A2 lite is my favorite remote simply because it works with everything you plug it into and the keyboard comes in real handy for Kodi keyboard shortcuts.

The included Infra Red only remote is rubbish, and has to be pointed directly at the U9 to get it to work.

Yes - if only it had separate number keys and a CTRL key it would be perfect.  Not being able to hit CTRL+SHIFT+O on the A2 Lite is really annoying, as is not being able to enter channel numbers directly when watching Live TV.

The Tivo Slide Remote Pro with Dongle is still my favourite keyboard remote as it has number keys on the front surface as well as the keyboard (it too doesn't have a CTRL key though) and more transport keys on the main surface. It's a lovely LiveTV/PVR remote (just map SlowMo to Stop)  It takes a bit more config work though (and would be only recommended under Libre Elec)

I do wish someone would properly create a decent Kodi remote with a keyboard though.

A modern version of the Nyxboard with a few tweaks, or a remote similar to the Tivo (but far enough away to avoid patent/trademark issues) would be great ?

Hello,

i'm from Germany and this is my first post.

I have Problems with no sound at all with passthrough oder audio stutter with pcm.
I have a Minix u9 connected via 5G strong Wifi (no possibility to connect via gig lan), an sony bravia 55x8505c TV and a sony str 370 avr.

The set up is: u9 Libreelec 8.2.4.1 installed on sandisk cruzer -> hdmi -> tv -> hmdi -> avr because avr cant handle 4k

With a 4k DTS Movie i have no sound at all via passthrought and audio stutter via pcm. Whats the problem?

i made a kodi.log https://paste.kodi.tv/todojikuma.kodi

Does your TV pass DTS via ARC audio (I'm assuming you are using ARC over HDMI from your TV to your AVR?) from other sources like DVD or Blu-rays?

When you are running PCM via ARC - are you running 2.0 ?  (ARC doesn't handle PCM at 5.1 or 7.1)

First: can't test it. Only minix is plugged in the tv

2nd: yes

Made a new Logile with PCM on and audio stutter:

Does anyone know if the U9-H supports WOL? I would like to wake up Kodi with a magic packet.
If not is there an other way to wake up Kodi besides with the remote control?

Do you know if minix u9-h can play videos recorded with iPhone XS with 4k resolution and 60fps?

I want to buy this phone and I want to know before, if it will possible to play at minix my home videos.

There is life in this quality, old hardware yet...

Decided to play around with the MINIX U9 I had stashed away yesterday using the latest CoreELEC Kodi Leia nightly (click)

On the 8 Core CPU - MINIX U9 - in combo with CE Kodi.
To my great surprise, you can easily ffmpeg Software decode ALL 1080p h.264 video now, inc....

- 10bit Anime
- Bluray Rips !!
- and the Kodi Netflix Addon easily streams & plays back smoothly in 1080p (it even does Atmos), plus
- higher picture quality 1080p VP9
- all 8bit 1080p HEVC
- even most low bitrate 10bit HEVC decodes and plays just fine.

From testing it can be seen there has definitely been great improvements in the underlying Multithreaded - ffmpeg code used for Kodi SW decoding in recent months.
It's really impressive the code optimisation that appears to have happened. Nod

For those that want a pretty slick Android TV Nougat v7.1.2 ROM then this is the best going around (includes Android Kodi HD audio passthru):

https://forum.freaktab.com/forum/tv-play...vpn-beta-2

The BIG advantage here is there is ROOT Switch in Android Settings.
Downside is there is no WideVine L1 DRM with this ATV ROM.

The ROOT switching then allows you to install the AFRDaemon.apk for Apps – auto Frame Rate Matching & consequently nice smooth video playback:
https://aapks.com/apk/afrd/

In the AFRD.apk the only thing I tweak is Settings > Switch Timings > STOP switch delay = 500

Next to uninstall some redundant Apps.
Go into the App Drawer and run the Terminal Emulator App.

Connect a Keyboard and uninstall Google Play Music (it's now redundant) and SmartYouTube:

pm uninstall --user 0 com.firsthash.smartyoutubetv2
pm uninstall --user 0 com.google.android.music

Then install the much more up to date – SmartTubeNext beta (gets rid of YouTube Adverts):
https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTubeNext

Further speedup tweaks:

ATV Settings > About > Build > click that until Developer Options are enabled then,
ATV Settings > Devices and Preferences > Dev. Options > change all 3 Window/Transition/Animator scale to 0.5x

If you are here to post only useless replies, your time on this forum will be shortened very quickly.
Consider this your 1st warning.

Does anyone else have problems playing True UHD 4K High Bitrate encodings? I have a dual booting setup, internally it's running the Latest Kodi and the other is external USB boot running CoreELEC and both of them the video skips every 30 mins or so. There are no issues with smaller file sizes.

How can I narrow down the problem? I have two full HD files from different sources and both stutter at the same points, so it must be to do with the higher bitrate at those moments in the film. My setup is all wired and network speed is 1 Gbit/s/. I have a Synology 216+II with WD Red drives so that can easily handle the 4k files (RAM and CPU on the Synology are only at 10 and 20% when playing the file). It must be something to do with Minix/KODI?
