As far as the EPG goes, I run Argus TV as the backend for my HDHomerun devices, and then scrape TV listings from zap2xml every night at midnight. Works perfect for me

These HDHRs are the EU/ AU versions but from what I've discovered, the culprit is the borked 20161117 firmware. Unfortunately it doesn't appear possible to downgrade to firmware that doesn't have the DHCP problem. The devices are still usable if direct connected to a PC, main issue is that they cannot use the HDHR EPG.

If you use the CLI can you force it to downgrade the firmware? If you are able to access it with it directly connected, try opening up a cmd prompt navigated to the hdhomerun folder and run:

Code:
hdhomerun_config discover     # this will list your device-id and IP address
hdhomerun_config <device-id> upgrade <filename.bin>
hdhomerun_config <device-id> set /sys/restart/self
hdhomerun_config <device-id> get /sys/version     #verify firmware version

Do this router side with DHCP reservation. You are over complicating this.

IMPORTANT:
The official Kodi version does not contain any content what so ever. This means that you should provide your own content from a local or remote storage location, DVD, Blu-Ray or any other media carrier that you own. Additionally Kodi allows you to install third-party plugins that may provide access to content that is freely available on the official content provider website. The watching or listening of illegal or pirated content which would otherwise need to be paid for is not endorsed or approved by Team Kodi.

Tried that weeks ago, even reserved the DHCP offered addresses and linked the DHCP offered addresses to the HDHR MAC addresses but still the things refuse to recognize DHCP addresses. The ONLY IP addresses they recognize are the 169.254 ones they generate themselves, and that doesn't allow standalone internet connectivity which is the only theoretical advantage HDHr offers over other tuners. These HDHR devices are either brain-dead or bloody-minded. I'll try running the CLI config utility though, just in case I can downgrade the firmware to something that isn't borked.

Given the RRP for these things (over $200 in Australia), they cannot be considered value for money. Sony PlayTV does everything the HDHR does at less than 25% of the cost..

I don't understand your constant reference to TVHeadend. Kodi has clients for the two PVR backends you say work,so surely problem is solved?

It would be more correct to say we have a workaround rather than a solution. The HDHRs are meant to accept a DHCP offered address and to connect to the internet and they do not. I have no idea how good the HDHR EPG is since I've never been able to get it, but that alone isn't the end of the world as the EPGs used by NextPVR and MediaPortal are OK, and the same should apply to whatever EPGs are used by other applications. I'm not happy though that the direct internet connectivity feature claimed by SD is non-functional, especially since that is the only feature of the HDHR tuners which justifies their very high price (in Australia) relative to other tuners. Needless to say, this issue does not in any way reflect badly on Kodi or those who have offered assistance; it is purely a sign of lack of professioinalism on the part of SD..
