ServerWMC .. close but no video
#1
hey I am trying to setup ServerWMC on my Win7 computer that has a Ceton 4 tuner USB.

I have set up the server and it runs

Then I installed the PVR software in Kodi on the same computer for testing
It works. I can change stations and watch live TV.

Next is my Android TV Box.. I have a fresh install of Kodi and I installed the PVR Client.

I put in the IP address of my Win7 Computer and I get nothing

Then I went and turned Windows Firewall off completely both public and private.

I go into channels and channels Populate with listings

I press on a channel to watch it and I get the waiting circle and nothing happens.

WHILE NOTHING IS HAPPENING...
on my windows computer I go to the status page for ServerWMC and I can see that
one of the tuners has changed to the station that I want to watch
It also says that it is streaming that channel out to Kodi Localhost.. which I guess is my android box

I never get the video on the android box

I have tried Copyfree channels that should play

I can open chrome on the Android Box and browse to the Status Page on the Windows 7 computer to see that ServerWMC is working and waiting and I have 4 open tuners...

Thing is I don't have my RecordedTV directory shared..

I don't really want to do this.. and I don't want to watch Recorded TV .. I have all of it being processed by MCEBuddy and being fed to an external drive and my RecordedTV directory never has any content in it .. or at least not for very long until it is moved to the other drive automatically...

So I am close.. I can browse to the Server Status Page from the Android Box

The TV Listings fully populate and I can see the channel listings

I just can't get it to play video

This is a new android 6 box that is in the kodi hardware list and it does not flinch at any of my recorded videos in any format.

Is that Windows share required to play Live TV or just the Recorded Files?

thanks

Yes, that's the way it is supposed to work. Even with wmc when you watch live-tv it is creating temp stores in your recorded tv folder, serverwmc does basically the same thing, only more of it. To give a client access to it it must be shared. I don't understand the reluctance to share the rec tv folder, especially when you keep it empty anyway.

Your only other option is to use http to stream live tv instead of the share, this can be set up in the serverwmc settings. This downside of this method is kodi will have very limited time shift capabilities, and it is also more limited in how well it uses multiple tuner devices.

It also helps to refer to the share via IP address. I run Raspbian on a Pi second generation as my bedroom client.

Also, don't put any escape characters in your share login or password - it gets passed in the stream and it will escape the string - so your password will get truncated.

Ok so I am adding some more information for you guys

I added a windows share for the RecordedTV folder
I recorded a couple snippets of shows

Kodi on my Android Box can see the shows that have been recorded
but it won't play the recorded files

It can also see all of my TV Channels but it won't play them

I have HTTP service set up
The Guide Works for all my channels I see the listings

Adding the Share has had no effect I guess because I have HTTP Service Enabled

As you will see in the Server Logs Kodi Client attempts to make a connection with ServerWMC
The Stream is started and then something fails

this is the Log for ServerWMC

Here are some screenshots

As you can see in the next image Kodi can see what is being recorded now
and the show clips that I recorded for testing

This shows the HTTP Service is Enabled

thanks krusty I am trying to setup the http

I just made another post with lots of info and screenshots

And a log from the server

I tried adding a windows share for RecordedTV and it didn't change anything.

Its still failing

Everything works.. I can see recorded shows .. I can see my channels.. I can see the guide

I just cant get the video to start for either a recorded show or live tv

The channels are copyfree so no problem there with encryption or anything.

The log says the server is starting.. I don't see a temp file being created anywhere in RecordedTV though... and I don't get any video

I appreciate your help you guys.

I am using the IP not the share name when I setup the PVR on Kodi.

Also I don't get an error that RecordedTV Folder can't be found.. I did at first but not now.

thanks :o)

For using a shared rec tv folder:

In the folders tab of serverwmc use the IP address rather then the machine name. So where it says enter the network path, substitute COMPUTERNAME for the IP address of your server.

For using HTTP:

Because this method is really NOT recommended for kodi you need to do one more step in order to get it to work, after turning on the http service. In the settings file of serverwmc (see debug tab) search for UseUrlClientPaths_Kodi and change the line its on to the following:
<UseUrlClientPaths_Kodi>true</UseUrlClientPaths_Kodi>

then save the file and restart serverwmc.
