What up with the Custom Backgrounds?
#1
So whats up with the way the custom backgrounds are handled?? I have a backgrounds folder in userdata for this. Now when I choose a background in the skin anywhere it now makes a copy, renames it and puts it in Custom Images Folder in Titan addon data. On top of that, if I use an image in different spots it will create a copy for every one.WHY??
Now I have too much wasted space because it makes all these copies of every background.
I guess im just confused on the reasoning for handling backgrounds like this.

**Just noticed something, Is this instead of them being stored in Script.skinshortcuts? That makes more sense.

i got confused too. So i moved all my backgrounds/hometiles into the custom images folder, created a source in the file manager with the prefix special://profile/...
switching to different device seems to cause confusion. only figured the above out last night but maybe by putting all your custom images in the "custom images" folder and linking them via file manager as above it MAY stop duplication? haven't tested this theory yet but it will be something i will try at some point.

They're indeed copied so they will still be available at all times and even when the skinsettings are backupped and restored to a different machine.
You would be surprised how many times issues were reported of missing backgrounds where someone just ditched the image from disk or tried to restore the skinsettings including custom images on a different box.

So, to prevent all those issues I figured to just copy the images to the skin's setting directory considered that we all have plenty of storage space nowadays and a few MB's of backgrounds wouldn't hurt.

I can undo this change off course but that will bring back the previous issues...

I love this skin and have customized it to my will. Thank you for the great work!

This thread is the closest I have come to a similar challenge I have with the Custom images  folder. Each of my submenus uses the same image but they are all copied to the folder. My Custom images folder is now nearly a gig making my backups large for transferring to another machine. I used a batch image compressor and got it down to 300mb, but now am determined to fix it anyway. What I am attempting is to hack the settings and submenu data folders with Notepad++ to replace all the submenu file names with a single image that is shared. I have accomplished this and restarted. I changed both files. No love. What file do I need to alter to do this so I can delete all the duplicates of the same image? Is there another settings or data file that controls this? I am not only interested in saving space but being able to mass change all of the backgrouds of a SubMenu in one fell swoop instead of manually. Below are samples from the 2 files I altered. Also attached are screen shots of what I am trying to do. The idea is to highlight the submenu row when the submenu is selected with a remote so people like my mother understand where they are in the menu system. I have accomplished the objective but wish to both save space and change a submenu all at once. Is this possible?

Sub Menu Background

Here is the one of the DATA file for submenus that I did a global thumb replace on.
As you can see I have successfully replaced the file name in all of them and placed a file by that name in the directory.
WIth this I managed to change all the icons to my background (d'oh!):

Here is the setting file I altered. I succeeded in removing the background completely. Also when Titan wrote the Menu file it changed some of them back:
