Code:
<advancedsettings>
    <loglevel>2</loglevel> <!-- Change this to "1" to hide the on-screen debug log text -->
</advancedsettings>

After that post the content of %AppData%\Kodi\userdata\kodi.log to https://pastebin.com/ and the link back here.

Having the same problems as everyone on here. New to all of this, how does one "create a file"? I feel like it's easier said then done. I wish I just kept 16 on my comp because that was working fineSadConfused

Hello,

Instructions are in the quote in your post. Use Notepad in Windows.

Further instructions and wiki pages are on Page 1 of this thread

I have done exactly that ^ and still cant open kodi. created a notepad doc titled advancedsettings.xml in the userdata folder (found by searching %AppData%\Kodi\userdata on the start menu).

inside the file I pasted:
<advancedsettings>
<loglevel>2</loglevel> <!-- Change this to "1" to hide the
on-screen debug log text -->
</advancedsettings>

What have I done wrong that I cant resolve this issue?

that doesn't resolve issue that gets debug info that they want to post here so they can see whats wrong. i am still waiting for somone to figure mine out

you do that by what he said abvove "After that post the content of %AppData%\Kodi\userdata\kodi.log to https://pastebin.com/ and the link back here."

correct me if i'm wrong. but once you have the file made and in the right folder, you try to run the kodi. great it doesnt open, still broken. you then go to the 'above desribed location' and open that file and copy and paste all the stuff in there to the pastebin site. then you copy and paste the link, (web address of your file), back here

Just as a fyi I was receiving the following in the log after upgrading from 16 to 17.1
ERROR: SQL: [Addons27.db] SQL error or missing database
Query: SELECT idVersion FROM version

so I deleted the files under \AppData\Roaming\Kodi\userdata\Database (after backing them up), then attempted to restart 17.1 which did come up at this point

I guess I'm a member of the "Downloaded new version, nothing happens" crowd. Here's my Pastebin info: https://pastebin.com/13vCzaUN

Got it. So then, where I am stuck is that I treied to open Kodi once the above tasks were complete, didn't work (as expected), then went back to the userdata folder and there is no kodi log file or folder there? There wasnt one there prior to creating the advanced settings file either. Thxs

If you're having this issue, there is now a sticky post with instructions for finding and deleting addons27.db here http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=311821

For future reference, you should always backup your system before performing an upgrade. For all major upgrades like Jarvis to Krypton, I recommend also doing a clean install. This is especially easy if your device boots from an SdCard.

Once you boot the clean install, do enough configuration to allow yourself to copy your backup file to the new system. You can then perform a restore operation that should install your addons and restore all of your configuration configuration settings.

Please be aware that some addons may not load for a number of reasons including compatibility issues. One reason I recommend this method is that if you are booting off of SdCards, you will still have your original system intact.
