Is there a way to achieve this with Kodi ? (my dream music manager inside)
#1
Hello Smile

I'm trying since several years, on and off, to find the perfect music manager (tried Kodi, MusicBee, Plex, MusicMonkey, Helium, VLC...).

I reinstalled Kodi last month but I didn't find a way to do what I want to do.

What I'd love to (for a music manager) :

- be able to play different songs (different users, then) at the same time with only one database (e.g in the living room + another user with his/her laptop somewhere in the house)
- have a centralized database (on my NAS, or on a light htpc)
- remote control the Kodi setup, with any device connected (without a remote desktop if possible)
- be able to rate songs anywhere (when playing, in a queue, in a library), with the device playing a song
- have these ratings in only one database
- be able to make playlists, with the kodi box or remotely
- a setup that can read mpc files (Musepack)

Sounds like Spotify, uh ? Sort of. But with my music, locally.

The most near-of-my-dream-setup is, at that time :
- Kodi box (my old desktop, in fact)
- remote controlled with Chorus2 (which can remote control the Kodi box AND play files locally on the controlling device !)

But this solution can't :
- rate songs inside Kodi (rating is not written in Kodi database)
- play mpc in browser (tried with FF and VLC plugin, but I couldn't make it play)
- create playlist inside Kodi (playlists created are in the brower interface, or I missed something)

I'd really love to achieve this. Really :-)
I can change some things. I can use Mint instead of Windows. I could transcode my music files (in a non destructive way).

Thank you for any tip Angel

You would be better off pasting this in the music forum. That is where the audio developers are more likely to see this

I use http://www.subsonic.org for my centralized database for music. There is also a kodi add-on http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=292973. For my android devices I use http://www.subsonic.org/pages/apps.jsp#dsub

Looks nice ! Alone (only Subsonic) I can't control both htpc & local device (as Chorus2 does). MPC playback seems buggy (plays only half of the song - no issue with mp3). But thanks for your input, I'll try it with Kodi !

Logitech media server.

What you are saying is that Chorus can't rate songs or create playlists in the Kodi music library. Using the Kodi UI song ratings are written to in the db (only place they are held), and you can create playlists.

Maybe raise this on the Chorus forum, or perhaps Kodi in client server mode could do what you want.

You absolutely can. It's called jukebox mode I believe.

How ? I was able to run it on the server. Control it using the server itself. Control it using my laptop (for both I had to install softsqueeze on the server). But I wasn't able to play music on my laptop using the server's database. I can install LMS on my laptop, but I haven't e.g the same ratings as the server's songs. Did I miss something ?

Both SoftSqueeze or LMS are not easy to use/browse. Especially SoftSqueeze (I'm not really a big fan of little LCD kind of interface)
I couldn't fllter the music by genre/album (or anything else, I have to choose : album or artist or genre etc).

Well, Jukebox mode. Another great mystery. Some talks about it, but I didn't find a lot of helpful information.
I didn't find how to turn it on. Maybe it's turned on by default ? I can see what's played by any user registered (I tried with two users), but can't control what's played on other machine. I can play songs on the server itself, play song on my laptop at the same time, see who is playing what, but can't play/pause/stop a song played by another machine.

I already did, but no answer. I'm now pretty sure I'm looking for something nobody wants or uses Tongue
Or I don't understand how things work. And mess what a server does with what a client does.

Chorus2 with Kodi is really close of what I'm looking for : have control of the server and playing songs on the server's sound card + play song on another device, whatever the device. It's ergnomic, easy to understand.

I'll up the other post ;-)
