Solved Black Screen on exiting Kodi 17

Hi,

Recently I have started having an issue where my screen will go black and I am unable to use the HTPC on exiting Kodi.

Basically when you press exit the screen will go black and then the only way to get back to the desktop is by resetting the PC, as ctrl+alt+delete doesn't work. The HTPC is using Kodi 17 on Windows 10 (i3 sandybridge processor, 8gb ram, AMD 6670 graphics card).

Any ideas on what is causing this? It doesn't happen every time, I would say 8 out of 10 times it will do it.

It's hard to tell from that log. You need to enable debugging from settings>system settings>debugging.

Restart Kodi, Replicate the problem so it crashes, then manually upload the debug log to a pastebin type site.

Your AMD 6670 looks to be about 6 years old, maybe check for new drivers? Did the issue start when you upgraded to v17.1?

Thanks for your response.

I'll run debugging in the morning and report back (sorry didn't realise debugging was a different log file).

The 6670 drivers are up to date as I get notifications when new drivers are available. I think they were last updated in the past 3 weeks.

Hi,

The issue has been ongoing for some time now. I thought it was just a bug with either Kodi or the theme I was using, so just hoped it would rectify itself in due course. I enabled debugging this morning and I have uploaded it here: https://pastebin.com/Ss1m76a6

9 out of 10 reasons for this is caused by an Add-on you have installed. You might also want to check your Video drivers (especially the latest Nvidia drivers which are causing issues).

Thanks for your response. In this instance I don't think it's graphics card driver related, as this has been happening for some time now and I have updated the drivers numerous times since.

I think I may have resolved the issue. I went into AMD Catalyst Center and then went 'My Digital Flat Panels > HDTV support > Predefined and Custom HDTV formats'. Selected 1080p60 standard and it hasn't crashed upon exiting since the change.

Kodi, Windows 10 and the TV were set to 1080p, so not sure why that's made a difference, but I'm not complaining haha.

Nooo not this again. I had this issue several years ago and manage to solve it in kodi 15.2. Now back after upgrade to 17.4! Black screen on every exit if running in full screen mode. I have to disconnect and reconnect the hdmi cable, then the screen comes back! I don't remember how I solved it last time.. It was some hack in kodi. Damn!

Edit: I found the fix. Set "fullscreen window" instead of real fullscreen in system settings.
