You did not follow the steps, you added the nigtly ppa, that is your problem.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

we could give more suggestions if you would, at least, tell us which OS you are using.

anyway....follow those steps:

http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Kodi_for_Linux

You probably have to remove the nightly ppa you added first

I do this, and i get the v18 again:

1st: Uninstall
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get remove kodi
sudo apt-get purge kodi

rm -r ~/.kodi/

Then:

sudo apt-cache policy kodi

And finally:

sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kodi

And I got v18 again....Sad

See: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid2594399 and now fix that.

Code:
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:team-xbmc/xbmc-nightly

Praise to users that know what they are typing into their terminal ...

The answer now stares you in the face doesn't it. You have the nightly ppa installed. Remove it.
