I am streaming a video from a server onto kodi onto my raspberry pi. When I play a video (and i've tried several), it shows that it is playing, but there is no audio or video.

You need at least 160 MB of memory on the GPU to play fullHD videos, 256 is the recommended for the Pi 2 and 3.

In config.txt in /boot or /flash (depending on distro)
