Android Fire TV Stick Gen 2 - H.265 playback
#1
Hi all,

I bought a Fire TV Stick (Gen 2) and installed Kodi onto it, but the H.265 playback is not smooth at all, although the hardware spec says it supports H.265 naively. Any ideas?

The hardware spec: https://developer.amazon.com/public/solu...ifications

H.265 (HEVC) video/mp4 Hardware accelerated up to 1080p @ 30fps, 25 Mbps, Main Profile Level 4.0, Color space 8-bit support

Thanks!

Download the Mediainfo PC / Mac program and interrogate problem H.265 files Metadata.

This could either be related to the 23.976fps video playback Firmware bug or you are trying to playback 1080p 10bit (Main10) H.265 files.

The FireTV2 should be able to decode 10bit H.265 - 23.976fps playback may be a different story.

Either way I would use the Stick for Android Apps only. Get something that fully supports Kodi and all audio & video compression formats for trouble free Kodi use.

What happened to 23.976fps?

....
Bit depth : 8 bits

This 8bit should decode fine, smooth playback might be a different story:

Fire TV new Firmware 5.2.4.1 - 24p playback stuttering

You may even need to mod Kodi's Video Cache's:
http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO%3AModify_the_video_cache

It could be the WiFi being used....

This is what I was looking/ hoping for. Could it possible be made to do 10 bit HEVC files while ignoring 2 bit (that was performance is not hit)?

According to this chart - No.

Media Specifications (Amazon Fire TV Stick, Gen 2)

You need a Fire TV2 box (Gen2) or a new 4K HDR FireTV (Gen3) for 10bit HEVC Hardware decoding.
