Kodi 17 - Slideshow very slow after upgrade to v.17
#1
Dear all,
this is my first post on this community forum, so apologies if I have done something wrong.

I have kodi version 17.3 installed on Raspberry Pi 3 with Raspbian.
After upgrade to 17.3 from version 16, I am facing a problem when using picture slide show.
With version 16 the slide show worked fine even with pan and zooming animations, after the upgrade instead the slide show is very slow and nothing change if I change the time interval between pictures.
The image fading is slow and if I turn on the pan/zoom it is so slow that it can barely be noted.

On a side note, soon after upgrading I had to increase the amount of memory dedicated to graphic acceleration to 128MB in order to be able to see the pictures in the first place. Again strange if we think that with version 16 this was not necessary.

I also tried to solve the slide show problem increasing even further the memory of the graphic board (up to 512MB) with no effect.

Here after the log in debug mode during the slide show:
Code:

Here there is the full log when using slideshow with pan and zoom activated.

There are few errors, but I couldn't find anything on the web that solved this problem, apart from some very old non applicable posts.
The only thing that I noticed is that a non negligible time lag exists just before the event "image xxx finished rendering", but I don't understand why.

In the end it is also worth noticing that if during the slide show I press the next button, the next picture get showed pretty quickly (less than a second) so I doubt this is just a slow rendering problem. It seems just that the slide show likes to be slow with apparently no reasons.

For now I run out of ideas, so please let me know your thoughts.
Cheers

Moved to Raspberry Pi forum.
Please post complete logs to a paste site (e.g. pastebin) and include a link.

Palermo-Napoli 2017/DSC_0387.JPG is causing a problem. Can you try moving that file out of the folder and check if that resolves the problem?
If it does we can have a closer look at the file to see if it corrupt, or uses some feature the Pi doesn't like.

Mine is working fine, just some lag related to settings.

I'm running straight of a libreelec img. I starting to bypass the noobs.

I doubt is the file, I have done the same in many different folders with different type of picture files with the same results.

Thank you!

You need to post the link here...

The log says this file is causing a problem so please try removing it and post a new log.
If you have many pictures with this issue (possible if they all come from same camera) then a sample photo with the issue would be useful.

I see there is a link in original post. But it is not a complete log. Please don't edit it down.

The log I posted in the link was recorded while doing a slide show in a different folder, with different files taken by a different cameras. I think also the error you are referring to disappeared, but the problem of very slow slide show is still present.

Thank you for your help!

Same here, tested on two different raspies, with openelec, libreelec and raspbian, kodi 17.3. Using kodi 16 with libreelec or openelec runs fine.

Hi,

I also have this problem on RPi 3 (both Libreelec and Openelec) - Kodi 17.3 is very slow as far as viewing/zooming/rotating photos is concerned - Jarvis runs fine. Also after exiting from full screen I get back to the first picture I started full screen with and not the last one - pretty annoying when you have to look through the whole folder to find the last photo. Can anyone shed some more light on this?

I too have found this issue

Ive created two fresh Libreelec installs and all have issues with very slow transition times between photos when using slideshow. I first thought there was lag due to my NAS but the same happens from a USB drive. There is no lag in moving along photos if i simply 'next' on the remote

Slideshow was smooth with pan and zoom effects in Kodi 16 with he same equipment (RPi3, NAS drive, a Samsung evo 64gb sd, officiial 2.5A RPi3 power supply)

The same Problem here.
The slideshow is very slow. It is not the loading of the pictures but the animation and crossfading affects are also very slow.

The first time I started a slideshow it was fine and run as aspected. But after some reboots (don't know if one reboot is enough) all my slideshow run very slow.

There are no related error or warning messages in my logfiles.

I run LibreELEC 8.0.2 (Kodi 17) on a Raspberry Pi 3.

It seems that the problem is common to many people. Should we issue a bug report?
