I have changed the hosts file to associate the Xbox's IP to that hostname.

The gadget indicates that it its connected to the appliance, but upon dropping a file into the sidebar nothing happens in either one of them.

yes i found that dragging a file on to the gadget didnt work for me. but i think the xbox has difficulty associating the correct path for the file being played, since your using the PC's filing structure

Love the app, but cant get a picture to show when media is playing.... using vista and localhost as XBMC if there is no cover art it correctly shows the XBMC logo but if I add cover art then I get a red cross in top left corner.

I cannot get this to work, at all, with Windows 7 RTM. It does not save the IP address after I fill it in either.

anyone get this to work on Win7?
I'm not an expert but I play one at work.

got it working... kinda.

looks like there are a few big bugs

1) poster never displays
2) editing the config using the GUI does not save (must edit txt file)

minor issues...

a) docs do not state IP address must have the port # added
b) paths in config file confusing - what are these for?

Windows SideShow is almost the same thing as a Windows SideBar gadget but displayed exclusivly on a small secondary display.

PS! I know this is the wrong place to request this bit I could not resist.

Sorry to be off topic but damn.. haven't heard anything about Windows SideShow in a while.

I found out the reason behind this. This gadget tells xbmc to put the current cover into the web directory. The problem with Vista (and 7) is that xbmc doesn't have the rights to place something into the program files directory.

i'm currently working on my own version and i already made a workaround for that.

I have just uploaded V1.5 of my gadget to Microsoft's Vista/Windows 7 Sidebar gadget gallery. (Unfortunately I forgot to update the version number on the submission form so it is still showing as v1.3 - hopefully that will change in a couple of days but you will be downloading v1.5.) This fixes most if not all of the problems reported on this thread which were predominantly due to me not keeping up with changes to xbmc.

You can get it here: http://gallery.live.com/LiveItemDetail.a...93743532d4

Updated again to v1.6.

Bugs fixed:

Aspect ratio matches XBMC only when screen grabbing
All (most?) key strokes are now exposed to the gadget

Hm, somehow dropping files on it doesn't work....

foldermapping=z:\music\=smb://hda/Movies/
foldermapping=x:\=smb://hda/Music/

these are my foldermappings...

this is a typical url of a working playing file:

# URLConfusedmb://hda/Music/A Perfect Circle/Emotive/7 - People Are People.mp3

this is what your gadget does:

12:15:05 T:3060696944 M:1428471808 DEBUG: HttpApi Start command: addtoplaylist paras: addtoplaylist; smb://hda/Music/iron maiden\powerslave\02 - 2 minutes to midnight.flac

I think it doesn't work due to the backslashes?
