Could you explain how you installed it?

1) download the file.
2) rename it to remove everything after GADGET
3) double click and follow onscreen directions
I'm not an expert but I play one at work.

Thanks!

I found that I had to disable my username/password to get it working. Any chance the readme could get updated with the list of config parameters? Is there one to set the username (username didn't seem to work))?
cheers,

Sorry for the confusion around the zip format - not sure why I did that. (A .gadget file is basically a .zip file.)

Livin: Live screen shots will only display in screen shot mode (ctrl s is the default screenshot toggle mode but look at the Help if you have problems with this). If what you are after is the corresponding icon for the film then this will only be displayed if xbmc has already created one prior to launching the file with the gadget i.e. you will need to have played the fileat least once direct from the xbmc gui. (I'll try to fix this for v2.)

How would you want the Send2XBMC functionality to work in the gadget? Perhaps the user copies the url to the clipboard and then initiates the play command through the gadget?

CrazyIvan: The config parameters can be found in the Help which can be found in the gadget's Option screen. The one you are looking for is password.

Got it, thanks Nad. I have the password set with "password". I think the problem is that I don't know how to tell the gadget what my xbmc "username" is.

Did I guess right that to set the port you just tack it on the end of the ip such as: 192.168.1.10:82 for port 82?

CrazyIvan: Yep, you can't change the username from the default 'xbmc'. I didn't think anyone used anything apart from 'xbmc'. I'll add that to v2.0.

The gadget only fully supports ports 80 and 8080. I haven't tested with anything apart from those two values. The auto scanning for new xbmcs definitely won't find anything that is not using either 80 or 8080 but the rest of the functionality should/may work. And yes, appending :82 would be the way to specify the port value.

Question: My windows 7 laptop can access our MP3s collection via it's R:\ drive. The windows 7 XBMC machine accesses the same MP3 collection via its X:\ drive. I tried the following mapping and I just get "No Files added" when dragging/dropping onto the gadget:

foldermapping=R:\=X:\

When I edit the music source in XBMC it shows that its on X: as expected.

Browsing to http://192.168.1.8:83/xbmcCmds/xbmcHttp?...ile(X:\The Band\The Album\The Song.mp3) causes "The Song.mp3" to play fine. Dragging that same song, but with a different root drive: R:\The Band\The Album\The Song.mp3, onto the gadget doesn't play and I see an unmodified path being added to the playlist in the log:

debug log Wrote:DEBUG: HttpApi Start command: addtoplaylist paras: addtoplaylist; R:\The Band\The Album\The Song.mp3;0;[music]

Where R:\ should have been changed to X:\

Any ideas?
cheers,

crazyivan

Version 1.92 uploaded to http://code.google.com/p/xbmc-http-api-a...loads/list

This version is a stop off before v2 and addresses Livin's request for send2xbmc functionality (via monitoring of the clipboard) and CrazyIvan's foldermapping bug.

After two weeks I cancelled the submission to Microsoft's gadget site. I will try again for v2 but in the mean time I will continue to use the google code site.

Loved the gadget, i use it with XBMC Mediakeys while XBMC minimized equel Amazing.
Please add current playing media info in overlay text on top of the image (for music especially) (i know i can hover with the mouse and get the tooltip).
maybe make the playlist look a little bit nicer (maybe yellow colored background), add more options and control in the playlist (like delete individual media).
add option to open a media stream, like youtube video, podcast, or internet radio would be great.
Last thing i've already posted this in the documentation on google code:
I had little problem make the gadget works in win7. i run the gadget and xbmc on win7 in the same computer. i've found while using port 80 with xbmc webserver i cant use localhost or the ip 127.0.0.1 only the dynamic ip i've got from my dhcp server with no relevance to firewall or antivirus setting. changing the webserver port to 8080 solve that issue.

Version 2.1 uploaded to http://code.google.com/p/xbmc-http-api-a...loads/list

Main changes

Less configuration is required for it to just work
Major bugs fixed which may have stopped the gadget working on some PCs
Viewing media thumbnails and screenshots no longer requires XBMC to have write access to the web folder
Fixed the formatting in the show key text (i.e. clicking ctrl-? on the gadget)

Dhead: I'm not developing this much now but I'll have a look into your suggestions. Have you seen a gadget that displays text in a way that you would like the Currently Playing info displayed? (Point me at it and I'll try to replicate it.) Let me know if your 127.0.0.1 problem has been fixed in this version.

Hi nad.
I see you updated the gadget.
Thanks, I really loved it when it was working.
Do you plan to continue to support it and to have it working with Eden?

Hi dhead,

Just came along to announce the release of v2.3 and pleased to see that you have already noticed. The update was primarily to get the key strokes working with the latest Eden nightlies.

I'll probably keep monitoring Eden activity to keep the current gadget functionality working but since the HttpApi (which is what the gadget uses) has been deprecated I doubt I will be making any radical changes.

Since you ask about Eden, have you found anything not to be working?
