My Kodi will crash to desktop when I try to resume playback of 4k x265 content, if I select play from beginning it will play just fine.

Most of these issues are with the h265 decoder and how your system handles those archives. The hardware is going to be of concern, make sure you have the latest drivers for the graphic engine, watch for bottle necks and cpu/gpu usage and temps. Post a proper debug log (wiki) to a public pastebin and link that URL back to this thread and someone will check your settings.
