I am trying to install kodi 17.3 and keep getting message "kodi has stopped working" and the program quits. anybody know how to fix?

It's working for most people, and you haven't given too many clues. Check here Supported hardware (wiki) to see if your equipment meets the hardware requirements. No mention if this was a Windows Store download or one linked from this website or mirror? The best diagnosis would be to post a proper debug log to a public Pastebin and that URL linked back to this thread. In your case, turning on debug would be using an advanced settings file Log file/Advanced (wiki) note: section 1.2 Turn on debugging using a file (advancedsettings.xml)
