Solved Downloaded Kodi, Gives error upon launching
#1
I downloaded 17.3 from this site. I installed and upon launching Kodi, I get the error message: Kodi stopped working, a problem has been detected. I have read several threads about deleting Addons27.db and that must not be my issue. I have created a kodilog and have it posted on pastebin.com I have pasted the address below. Can someone please check this out and tell me why it is not working. Thank you in advance.

Hello samcrass and welcome,

Great to hear you did a bit of research and provided the debug log right at the very start. If only more people did that Smile

Bad news is that you will need to do it again as it was not in debugging mode. Follow these instructions... http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid2572642

But, it is a high probability that it is the graphics card. You have a ATI Radeon HD 3450 which is circa 2008 release and it may not meet the minimum hardware requirements... http://kodi.wiki/view/Hardware_requirements#Windows

If that is the case, then your best solution would be using v16.1 which can be downloaded here... http://mirrors.kodi.tv/releases/win32/old/

I had read on another post that the ATI Radeon was an issue. I will debug it again and look into a new graphics card. Do you have any recommendations on a new card? I dont game or anything so dont need to go crazy and spend a lot of money. Thanks for the help.

Sorry no, I cannot recommend a card. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.

If you want HDR 10bit support for 4k, then the market is still in its infancy and it is best to wait. If you just want something cheap to get you started for now, anything released in the last year or two should be fine.

There are some discussions on graphics in the hardware forum here if you are interested in finding out more... https://forum.kodi.tv/forumdisplay.php?fid=112

I'm a Nvidia 'fan' myself, and recently got the GT1030 card. It seems to do fine in Windows 10 with the latest drivers for 4K/HEVC/10bit. Mind you, it has no CUDA or HEVC encoding support. In Linux it's on a short leash on 8bit video only. Earlier cards like the GT520/610 etc are fine too for the simpler video types.
For AMD there is the RX550. A bit more potent perhaps (and slightly more powerhungry) but for a HTPC already a bit of overkill.

On the other hand, if you can do with simple video display, you could also get a Raspberry Pi 3 which costs less, makes no noise, and will save you money in the end on the electricity bill compared to a full pc with an extra video card.
