When I'm playing a radio station, the title of the song and the artist are displayed, but aren't transmitted via TCP. Is there a setting I can turn on to get this to happen?

I'm using Kodi 16.1.

I send a query when I first access the radio stream, but it doesn't continue to return information when a new song is played. Is there a way of getting it to do it automatically, or do I have to keep querying at a set interval to get the new info?

you do have to keep polling,
If this were individual media files being played you would get a OnPlay notification, but i assume radio is a stream and you apparently do not.
