Do you mean the Refresh button in the Movie or TV Show Information page? Which skin are you using. Can post a screen shot.

Kodi does not create Genre's. That information comes from the scraper site along with all the other information on the movie, like Actors, Directors, Plots, Ratings etc.

If you don't have your own nfo files, then the easiest way to add a Genre to your movies is to use the edit facility in Chorus2.
