AFL (offical) Live Streaming Question
#1
Hi

I posted this question yesterday but it was deleted as it was presumed I was talking about a banned add-on. Apologies - but I'm actually trying to stream AFL (Australian Football) via the official and legal Kodi add-on( which I pay for with an approved Telstra subscription account).
The moderator seemed to indicate my problem is related to the add-on, not Kodi. Can any please confirm that this is the likely cause:

When I use Kodi 17.3 for live AFL I encounter a frequent problem where the image will freeze - buffer - then fastforward to the live stream before repeating the process. It seems as if Kodi is dumping it's buffer then speeding to catch up to the live feed, only to remember that it needs to buffer it again. Frustrating.

This behaviour will generally repeat and degrade until the stream becomes unwatchable.

I've played with multiple cache setting in advancesetting.xml but they have no effect. I don't mind if Kodi buffers - in fact I'd prefer it if I can get smooth live AFL playback - my issue seems to be that Kodi wont buffer.

Any help would be appreciated.

Chris

It's difficult to diagnose anything without the required debug logs.

Please provide the following...

1. Name of the add-on you use to watch AFL
2. Debug log. Instructions in my signature below. Use the Basic method. Once you enable debugging, restart Kodi, then replicate the problem. Let it run for 5 minutes with the buffering issue, then upload

Probably wrong sub-forum regardless as what you talk about does not sound like "PVR" in Kodi's deffinition, which you should read here => http://kodi.wiki/view/PVR

This "PVR & Live TV Support" is only if you are using one of the PVR client addon listed for PVR backends here => http://kodi.wiki/view/PVR_backend

If you are using any other addon then will likley be a "Video Addon" and not a "PVR client Addon" so instead post here => https://forum.kodi.tv/forumdisplay.php?fid=154

That is, what your "Live TV" source is is not as important here as what API that your addon is using, and "Video Addons" does not use Kodi's PVR API.

PS: I guess it would have help if you actually just post which exact addon you are using in your post above, because there are no mind readers here.

Thanks for your help guys. First time doing this so apologies if I get it wrong:

I switched on debugging and replicated the error in during a live game fairly quickly. I've pasted the log here:
https://pastebin.com/ZjVxX5XW

The add-on is AFL Video V1.8.2

RockerC -Yes I may be in the wrong sub-forum, I chose this one because it was a live stream but yes it is a video add-on. Happy to move the thread if I'm in the wrong place.

Looks like you've chopped out the important bits. Can you give the full log please.

OK sure. I'll need to wait until the weekend when the next game is on. Thanks.

I've managed to recreate the problem again and pasted the log here.

The stream will pause and buffer with the normal 0-100 counter, but will usually only resume from that point for a few seconds before skipping forward to try to catch up to the live stream

It does look like buffer issues. You probably need to adjust those. Just a note, your buffer settings in advancedsettings.xml are incorrect and need to be changed. Starting with Kodi 17 buffer settings were moved out of the <network> element and into a new <cache> element: http://kodi.wiki/view/AdvancedSettings.xml#cache

Thanks for that. I've modified the file as per your help and it seems to be working better. I'll give it a real test on the weekend and report back how it goes.
