v17 Kodi 17.3 Segmentation Fault with .dconf and .dbus
#1
I have been using Kodi 17.3 Krypton for approximation 2-3 weeks and it has worked just fine for my needs for many hours of video and music during that time. On Tuesday 25, I loaded up Kodi as usual for watching a show and it just quit instantly and has never been able to start it again.

I have installed and reinstalled the program at least 3 seperate times and I have even tried to use an older version to see if that would work and it would not load.

Below is the Terminal response I recieve after trying to load Kodi via terminal

Quote:douglas_m_pope@douglaspc:~$ kodi
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
find: ‘/home/douglas_m_pope/.cache/dconf’: Permission denied
Crash report available at /home/douglas_m_pope/kodi_crashlog-20170729_004538.log
douglas_m_pope@douglaspc:~$

The program will not load via double click on link or via Dashboard.

Crashes every time, no matter how i try to start it

I am still a Novice in regards to Linux and Ubuntu in general so any help is welcome.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get install mesa-vdpau-drivers
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

I have seen this issue yesterday already and I think you broke your mesa installation with an ubuntu upgrade. Try the above commands to fix it

I have run all of the commands listed and Kodi still will not load at startup. This is what I get from the first 3 commands but not #4 as it is extremely long and I have everything updated as far as they can be.

I don't know exactly what I did but I had Plex also installed, but I could not access my external HDs with Plex so I stuck with Kodi and uninstalled Plex. As I said before, it was working good enough for me then just quit.

I still don't understand how the .dconf file/folder is locked to root on an admin account.

This is just my opinion, but there has to be a relationship between Kodi and .dconf. I don't have a clue why dconf is rejecting Kodi with permissions.

I don't know enough to do more than try to look for an answer.

Please use PasteBin for such long file posts.

Upload them there and replace the mass above with links if you can.

Quite easy. By once starting a program of your choice with sudo. Fix these permissions manually.

I have attempted to run Kodi both at the normal and sudo level. Below is what I receive via terminal.

I DO NOT KNOW how to use sudo to give permissions to kodi to access the dconf folder or any other folder that it requires to run. I DO NOT KNOW how the permissions were screwed up.

I have only been using Ubuntu actively for approximately 3 months and my knowledge is very limited.

I am unsure how this website is supposed to help me with my Kodi installation. Clarify please?

It's an out of the box solution. Install it, be happy. No need for caps lock, it will just work.

Somehow, some way. I have no idea how but it seems that I somehow installed something that Kodi required last night and it is finally working. I will be keeping the settings changes to a bare minimum of what i require and i wont be using profiles but its back and working.

it will take a couple hours to reload the library database but it is working.

Before I forget, I am not using Kodi on a secondary machine. I am using it on my primary machine as i switch between computer stuff to entertainment stuff. Its all i have for the time being.

Thanks for your help.
