Recorded TV Shows not refreshing until ServerWMC closed & reopened
#1
Hello All,

I am currently running a Windows 7 HTPC (TBS Dual tuner) with WMC / ServerWMC as the backend and Kodi 17.3 as the frontend (estuary/ titan skin). EPG Data comes from Schedules Direct and over all it is a very WAF friendly set up with no real issues.

The HTPC I use acts as both server and client (in the living room) but also feeds out nicely to mixed clients round the house.

The setup works very well, except that any recording (always done from the HTPC), whether scheduled or 'on the fly' refuses to show up in the 'recorded tv' section of the same HTPC until I have stopped and started Server WMC.

When a Tv show is recording, it shows in kodi as 'currently recording' and the 'Recordings' menu shows it under [* recording now]. The minute it stops recording it disappears completely from Kodi as if it never existed. Closing down Kodi then cycling ServerWMC then opening Kodi again shows the recorded program perfectly with all the detail, thumbnails and information and is perfectly watchable.

Quitting and restarting just Kodi makes no difference, neither does updating the video library. The trigger seems to be stopping and starting ServerWMC.

Is anybody else having similar problems? The problem is exacerbated by the fact it is an 'always-on' HTPC, so the recording library only ever updates when I do the occasional reboot or manually power cycle ServerWMC.

ps: Legacy WMC recordings are in a folder not shared to network clients

In the settings file of serverwmc (see debug tab). Search for Debug_RequestAllRecordings and try changing it to true. Then save the settings file and restart serverwmc then kodi. Let me know if that solves it.

Hi Krusty, thanks for the response. Barreling through the documentation last night I saw that advice in the wiki and set it to true, but unfortunately it doesn't change anything. Looking through the logs I can see it makes that request and pulls the data, but this only seems to happen on restart, rather than a polled or workflow action.

This issue has been hanging around since at least Kodi v14 and was not exclusive to ServerWMC as I've dipped in and out of trying to get it resolved since then, albeit with different backends. I remember seeing some threads from a few years back, showing how the error was introduced between Kodi versions. Unfortunately it seemed to be one of those problems where it couldnt be decided where the fix should actually occur - frontend or backend.

There are a fair few threads over on the NextPVR forum discussing the problem. I think they finally addressed it by releasing an updated dll to trigger a refresh after a recording finished. Not sure how other backends got around it?

Saying that, it could be something about my setup that is borked? Anyway, thanks for your help thus far. Much appreciated.
EDIT:

Original thread from 2015 (albeit for NextPVR)

I don't believe the problem is that its not pulling recordings over, at least when I looked at this problem before it was a problem with a Kodi cache. If you delete a recording I'm sure kodi will reread the rec list, so see if that fixes the list (I bet it won't)

Hey Krusty, sorry bud, I should have mentioned that I saw that idea too and tried deleting a recording. As you correctly surmised, nothing happened. To be honest I think that was the last of my attempted fixes.

Any other ideas gratefully received.

All the best

Actually for the problem source I am thinking of, restarting kodi should have solved it, so maybe this is a different problem then the one i looked at previously. I will try to reproduce it when I get some time.

I just double checked the delete show/restart Kodi fix and no joy so it must be something different. If you need any other logs or info let me know. Will set schedule a program stop/start to take care of it in the short term. Cheers for your help
