Hey guys not often im stumped but i have a real problem.

I cant run the reconfigure command on Lirc as it stopped working so i removed it and all corresponding directories for a fresh start and im getting this:

derek@dungeon:/$ sudo apt-get install -y lirc

When i tried to run the reconfigure it was displaying the lines above about recompiling something.

Really stuck - this PC is an oldie from 2005 with a core 2 duo and a 750ti Nvidia and has NEVER failed me so far so i know its not hardware there must be some software problem - im running the latest ubuntu dev build.

Any help appreciated - and i did read about patching the kernel but long time since i rebuilt a kernel from scratch or such like.

Cheers

Derek

Had a quick look can you tell me how to patch that please pal?

Im just running vmlinuz -> boot/vmlinuz-4.10.0-32-generic

Or is there even a way to jump forward to a working version, just my hardware never seems anything other than the generic kernels.

Anyone point me to some instructions to get this fix merged it seems im a fair few kernels behind where the fix lies.

What version of which distro are you running?

Kind of hard to offer you pointers on changing the kernel if we don't at least know that much. You seem to be running a Debian variant (apt-get) but you make mention of Slackware so it's a bit hard to guess at it.

Only 4.12-* to <4.13-rc3 kernels need that lirc fix, older and newer should be good.
