[RELEASE] ByteFM

Hi,

I've thrown together a plugin for ByteFM, a really great web radio station from Germany.

Why an extra add-on? Well, paying members ("Friends of ByteFM") have access to the entire backlog of shows, so I thought it would be nice to be able to browse and listen to the archive from within Kodi.

In addition to letting you browse the archive by show, genre or presenter, each show is cut up into songs - so you can skip songs you don't like, and each show is treated like an album by Kodi (scrobbling individual tracks, showing artist information in 3rd party UI add-ons, etc)

Here's a demo video:

You can view the source and download releases at: https://github.com/kopf/plugin.audio.bytefm

Hopefully there are a few Friends of ByteFM on here! I'd be very glad to receive some feedback and/or beta testing support.

Thanks!

Hey, nice plugin! I love byte.fm and so I'm happy to be able to listen to it with Kodi now. First I've tried to listen to the high quality stream via standard Kodi audio player or the radio app but both with no success.
And I especially like the search by genre. Great feature!

Two questions:
  1. Is the live stream 128kb/s or 192kb/s?
  2. Do I need to pass my credentials to use the plugin in general? Or is this only necessary for certain features?
I would like to give you some further feedback. Should I post here or should I open Github issues for bugs and feature requests?

Thank you for your work. I really appreciate it Smile

Ah, I should have read your readme in detail:

Hey pminf,

thanks for the kind words! Glad you're finding it useful.

If you find bugs or want features added, it would be best to open github issues. Thanks!

And yeah, the livestream defaults to the highest quality it can get - if you're authenticated as a friend of bytefm, you'll get the 192 stream, otherwise you'll get the 128 stream and won't be able to listen to the archive.

Hello ventolin,
i love bytefm and i like your addon, thank you very much!
I have a problem with the Bytefm archive.
At the TV with the remote control your addon works perfectly.
Even if you then open the web interface (Chorus 2) you have a perfect view of the playlist

Via Kodi web interface or Yatze the cue file with the individual titles is not read.
Can you do something, or do you have a tip for me?

To clarify what I mean a few screenshots

1.
everything is going great on the TV, you can easily see the playlist
https://picload.org/view/dcirgila/tv.png.html

also when you open the web interface you have a good view of the playlist

2
if you start the archived radio broadcast directly from the web interface, you cant see a playlist

 Hey,
I've just implemented a quick fix for this problem and released it in v0.2.1 here: https://github.com/kopf/plugin.audio.bytefm/releases

Can you please download and have a go? I'm currently abroad on a work trip and can't test it at the moment.. But it should work.

Hi ventolin,
thanks a lot for your quick help.
The v0.2.1 works really well!

Note about the other problem with the playlist via the webinterface;
I noticed, that when you download via Webinterface a broadcast from the bytefm archive and then update the audio database manually you have a working playlist.
The mp3.cue is only read in if you manually update the audio database.

Hi ventolin,

recently I have a problem with the addon (v0.2.1)
No information (artist and title) is displayed in the live stream.
Only permanent "ByteFM" is displayed.
Can you confirm that and possibly even repair it?
Many thanks

Hi F. Horst,
there were some problems with the metadata in the web stream recently. Can you confirm that the problem still persists? Or is it resolved?

Cheers

Hello ventolin,
I haven't been here for a long time.
Is it a very big effort to update the plugin to Python 3, for Matrix?
Thanks

Hey F. Horst,
It's not exactly a huge effort - the plugin is rather small - but it's a complete rewrite, due to the fact that the frameworks the plugin uses have also been revamped for python3. It's been on my to-do list for about 3 years now. Sad I figure it's about a weekend's worth of work, but things have been crazy at my end lately, in particular also with work for ByteFM. If I get around to it soon (hopefully in the next months), I'll be sure to write a message here.
Sorry I can't give you any better news than that!
