I'm using Kodi 17.1 with the default skin on win10. When I select a movie from one of the folders in my favorites tab I see a thumbnail on the left side of the screen. (I assume it grabs an image from the video file since I don't have any jpeg files stored there). Below this image it displays the text "No information available". I was told that this is because it couldn't find a .nfo file where it gets this information. Indeed that was the case, so I created one.
For example, I have a video file named "Logan 2017.mkv"
So I used notepad to create a file called "Logan 2017.nfo" that looks like this:
I moved this .nfo file into the same folder as the mkv video file. Even after restarting Kodi, when I select this particular video from the favorites it still says "No information available". Also when I play the video and go to the playback menu at the bottom of the screen and click on the script "i" (Media info) it shows the same thumbnail next to a big box for the media info, but it is empty with a "Not Available" label above it. (There is also a green button that says "Plot", but I don't know what that is for.)
Why doesn't kodi display any media information? Is it because it is not looking for the nfo file or is it because I made a mistake in the formatting of my nfo file?
Sorry for such a basic question that I'm sure has been answered here before but I couldn't figure out how to search for it. I tried searching for "nfo" but it complained that my search string was too short. (Seems like a silly restriction if you ask me). Tried searching for ".nfo" but it still didn't allow it. Tried searcing for "nfo file" but it gave me thousands of hits containing the word file without the word nfo.
Thanks
