v17 Problem with adding videos to library - how to revert to older version?
#1
Greetings all!

I have a big issue with my Kodi 17.4. Since the last update, I can't manually add video media into library. I've tried changing skins, but there was no improvement. The detailed explanation is here, in this post. This is important to me as I am on vacation and I can finally convert my DVDs and BRs into MKVs and add them to the library for watching... but the final part is not working.

Now, until that is resolved, I would like to revert to version 17.3. I am using 64 bit Kodibuntu (will upgrade in future to some newer distro), how can I do that?

That issue seems to be affecting some people. But you can still add movies to the library by using the Update Library option. This scans all sources for new content, rather than a single movie. Depending upon the size of your library, it should only take a few seconds longer. Access this option from the side panel settings in the Movie section of the main menu. If you are not sure how, see here... http://kodi.wiki/view/Basic_controls#Sidebar_menu

Others will have to advise how to revert to 17.3

I see. Well it's not really the solution as I have quite large library and some items I don't want to be added for various reasons. That is why I need to have the option to add single item into library.
I hope someone will be nice enough to provide instructions how to revert to Kodi 17.3 on Kodibuntu.

Might it be possible to enter the target folder and scan or using 'I' key rescan for a scrape manually? I understand this is not the same behaviour as earlier versions, but it might be a stop gap.

There's no way to downgrade to 17.3 except you compile yourself from source.

The latest Kodi 17.x version will be found at the kodi-old ppa after Kodi 18 will be published.

But there's a good part of that story. We talked about that in our team channel and I will try to reproduce and we probably found the issue already. So chances might be good that it will be merged at least for Kodi 18

PatK: it doesn't work with TV show folders. For movies, I've found workaround (exactly that one), but my animes are in folders, by season. And I can't do anything.

DaVu: Oh, please, release new version, 17.4.1, please. AFAIR, Kodi 18 haven't got release date yet, and I can't add anything now. Well, not only me, I guess...

Unfortunate how no one has those two deb packages for Kodibuntu, to at least install manually.

As I said...you could compile yourself from source. I'm not the person to speak to if it comes to release-dates and/or versions.

Kodi 18 is already available by the xbmc-nightly ppa. But nothing has been PRd yet, so nothing to merge and/or publish.

you are lucky, launchpad still has the old version available, but you must download the deb manually:

since you run kodibuntu, I assume it is trusty(14.04). Make sure this is correct, otherwise adjust filenames below.

Code:
lsb_release -a
# make sure it says trusty
wget https://launchpad.net/~team-xbmc/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+files/kodi-bin_17.3+git20170525.0741-final-0trusty_amd64.deb
wget https://launchpad.net/~team-xbmc/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+files/kodi_17.3+git20170525.0741-final-0trusty_all.deb
sudo dpkg --force-downgrade -i kodi*.deb

Might be this bug in 17.4 version only?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

This helped, and the required function returned. So, it's really a bug in software, and not in user Laugh
