I've replaced the default homemenu_back.png and used a full 225 height with a full graphic instead of the default menu with the transparency on the top and bottom. Now my submenus don't show I'm assuming because I took away the transparency. Is there a way to add/change the background for the submenu to keep the full 225 height or move the submenu down some in home.xml?

Altering transparency on the main menu should have zero effect on whether the submenu is visible.

That being said, I have no idea what you mean by "transparency on the top and bottom"...

If you would like assistance then please post full code from GitHub or a link to the completed xml's in question to a website like pastebin.com.

Please Do Not Post xml code directly in your post it is too difficult to read and help with code added to a post.

I meant to say "I actually DIDN'T edit any of the .xml at all."

if you do not change the xml you need the transparency on your .png as well.
in the original there is the shadow.
if you do not use the transparency it will always out of line
