Freeze with concurrent logins on Windows 10 1703
#1
Issue with Kodi 17.4 and Windows 10 x64 Pro 1703 (HTPC) when using the patched termsrv.dll from here - https://www.mysysadmintips.com/windows/c...windows-10 - to re-enable concurrent logins.

When I log in to the HTPC with another account, so that I can move some files around or whatever, using remote desktop, Kodi immediately freezes. The secondary account works fine, and the OS remains stable on both accounts. The user at the HTPC can force close Kodi without crashing Windows. Weirdly, though, if I connect to the remote machine with Tight VNC, Kodi then unfreezes, and I can go on to manipulate files or use virtual machines or whatever on the secondary login, and Kodi will go on operating normally unless I log out, then log back in again, at which point it will freeze again.

This really isn't a huge problem, and I understand if this is just not in the scope of what should be supported, since I am modifying Windows system files, but I thought this information might be useful. I can't be the only HTPC owner that is using a modified termsrv.dll to re-enable concurrent logins with Windows 10.

Edit: Direct link to the patched termsrv.dll - https://www.mysysadmintips.com/-download...l_2017.zip

Turn off remote audio in your rdp settings (client side).

Btw, i also need secondary logon and i use rdp wrapper. No need to patch system files and it holds across win updates

If I'm understanding you correctly, you're telling me to turn off remote audio in remote desktop on the machine I'm using to connect to the HTPC, right? How do I do that? I don't see an option in the remote desktop settings, what few settings I see.

Click on 'show options' in the bottom left. Then 'Local Resources'.
Under 'Remote audio' click on 'settings'. In Remote audi playback section, choose 'Do not play'.
Issue for me was kodi absolutely seemed to detest the audio detour

Thank you very much! I will test it later tonight, but the guide was accurate. "Local Resources" lol...Microsoft loves to hide things in stupid places.

Also having this issue, but the disabling audio doesn't seem to help. I have figured out that if on kodi/tv side, using a key board pressing the windows key twice to pop up the start menu, and that gets it working again. no idea what exactly is happening

Can we have a look into your debug log (wiki) ?
Reboot and reproduce the issue, try to do nothing else and post a link to the log here.

For reference, it didn't fix it for me, either. However, I am no longer using Kodi.

It seems that the ‘Mstar Demo’ sound device is not supported.
This might contribute to the issue or it might not (not much else of interest in the log).

Have you tried disabling your sound device (for testing purposes?)

SOrry it took so long to reply, but it isn't just a Kodi issue, also happens to VLC and Media Player also, so its something windows and video drivers are doing together for me, not kodi.

Hi All,

I have also been getting these freezes when concurrent RDP into my kodi main living room server. (with tweeked dll files)

This has been happening since kodi 17.X in windows (hope it will ge fixed in Leia).

I have tried the option of Audio Off, but that does not seem to work
What strangely does work is pressing the windows start key on a keyboard twice. It is the only solution so far.
Although it means having a keyboard in the living room next to the TV every time i want to RDP to my server in order to unfreeze it. (my wife doesn't want this additional decoration piece), so please help me find a more professional approach or solution.

Must be someone out there who has figured it out.

Thanks.
