I couldn't find a way to automatically start kodi after a reboot/start-up in the wiki or in the kodi forum, but found the answer in the raspberry pi forum;

$ nano /home/pi/.config/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart

add;

@kodi -fs -d 2

at the bottom of the file, save, exit and reboot.

Thanks for sharing, although in this kind of scenario most people would just use a dedicated setup like LibreElec or OSMC.

Which distro? Arch ARM ships with kodi.service for example that does this.
