I am having issues using the subtitle feature. When I enable subtitles they pay even when the language is English. If I disable them then obviously I don't get any. This makes it difficult because if I'm watching a show like Narcos I get ask the English and Spanish at the bottom of the screen even though I only need it to translate the Spanish, then if I watch a different show like Ray Donovan then I get an the English in subtitles when I don't need it at all so I have to constantly turn subtitles on and off and hope I don't need any during an episode

Go into the video OSD (press ENTER during a video) and go in the subtitle settings. Turn them off, and save the default for all videos.
If you don't need any English subtitles, you can remux the videos with MKVtoolnix or MKVmerge.
Sometimes subtitles are hardcoded. Then you're out of luck.
