Is it possible to implement in Kodi good quality hi-res subtitles? Subtitles in Kodi are one decade past competitors. Compare Kodi subtitles with MPC-HC:

Quality is as always in the eye of the beholder, personally I prefer the top one. Much better when the video background is light-colored to totally white.
Other than that, Kodi's subtitles are rendered with TTF fonts. The only difference is the amount of black shadow around them as far as I can see.

I rarely use subtitles, but I must say I would also prefer the top one because of clarity. Then again, maybe I'm just getting old, I generally prefer interface designs that are a decade old...

One the the major achivements of UX desing of the past decade is that we can make rendering the border font configurable. Unfortunately nobody implement this checkbox so far. Seems not to be too important
